Gratitude to R' Eli OB"M
I don’t usually write talkbacks or comments, but I feel a special gratitude to R’ Eli Lipsker OB”M.
Growing up in N.Y. in the 60’s and 70’s I had special admiration to that Chosid that always played his organ/accordion by the Rebbe, at the rallies, the Simchas Beis Hashoevos, and so many of the weddings in Crown Heights. Having an attraction to music and musical instruments, I also began to learn to play accordion and R’ Eli’s playing was a great source of inspiration for me.
When I became a Choson and my wedding was going to be in Montreal, I yearned to have a ‘ Crown Heights style ‘ wedding. When I asked R’ Eli if he would consider coming to Montreal to do my wedding, he very kindly agreed and was very reasonable. He also agreed to ‘shlep zich’ on the Hyman’s wedding bus with another one of his musicians and his equipment to keep the cost down to a minimum. In Montreal he organized other musicians and made the Chasunah so ‘lebedik’ that nearly everyone told me that they never remember such a lively wedding here in Montreal.
I occasionally pick up my accordion to play some of the Nigunim and oldies that I grew up with, and also include R’ Eli’s originals as his Hamavdil Bein Kodesh Lechol, Mekimi Meyofor Dol, Yismechu Hashomayim, etc..
When I play my accordion to the children in my class during special occasions, they look at that odd instrument that you don’t see around much these days, and I tell them about the ‘ Chosid ‘ that played this kind of instrument by the Rebbe so often.
May the Neshomo of R’ Eli OB”M inspire all the Neshomos to join us all in the song of ‘ We Want Moshiach Now’ and ‘Ad Mosai ‘ and may we merit the Geulah Sheleimo NOW !
