Wednesday night, eve of Rosh Chodesh Kislev, the annual event commemorating Rosh Chodesh Kislev was held in the Lubavitch Yeshiva Ketana of London.
200 members of Anash, bochurim and members of the general London Jewish community flocked to the lavish Seudah, which was elegantly prepared and arranged by the Shluchim of the Yeshivah Gedolah.
As people entered they were greeted with the beautiful sounds of niggunim being played live by Shmuel Noymen, and as they sat down to delicious fruit salad, the official program began.
Opening remarks were heard from Mashpia Rabbi Mendel Gordon of the Yeshiva Gedolah, followed by Rabbi Sufrin who led the recital of the Rebbes Kapitel of Tehillim.
Rosh Yeshiva and Mara D’asrah of northwest London Rabbi Hertz then gave words of blessing to the crowd, enthralling the crowd with Divrei Torah and words of chizzuk.
The main course was then served followed by a video presentation showing clips of the Rebbe, glimpses into the scenes that took place during the first Rosh Chodesh Kislev and concluding with a recount by the famed Dr. Ira Weiss.
As the lights adjusted, Dayin Raskin then connected this special day to this week’s Parsha, and explained what we could learn out from this special Yom Tov to our day to day lives.
Following some beautiful Niggunim, Rabbi Moshe Lazar, a guest speaker who flew in especially for the occasion, addressed the crowd. The crowd was treated to many inspirational anecdotes and Torah sources to express his message of how the Rebbe is our father and is still leading us and blessing us in a miraculous manner.
The crowd then broke out into a joyous dance, celebrating the Yom Tov of Rosh Chodesh Kislev, the day the Rebbe left his room for the first time after a massive heart attack.
Dessert was followed by Benching and a farbrengen that continued until the wee hours of the morning.
In honor of the event a special booklet was printed by the Yeshivah Gedolah Shluchim, entitled “The Rosh Chodesh Megilah”, a summary of the entire story leading up to the Rebbe’s heart attack and the chain of events that followed.
Special thanks to the Shluchim of Yeshivah Gedolah london: Chaim Teitlebaum, Yechezkel Kohn, Shmuly Sputz, Mendel Ashkenazi and Sholom Wilansky for coordinating this beautiful event.
