The translation of Alter Rebbe‘s book of Tanya, the foundation of Chabad chassidism, into the English language was a watershed event, impacting the world, spiritually and physically.
The Tanya had already “conquered” the airwaves with the innovative “Radio Lessons in Tanya” hosted by the late Rabbi Yosef Wineberg.
The subsequent printing of those pioneering classes in English, in the 5-volume Lessons in Tanya, brought Chassidus to thousands of students around the world, becoming an essential tool for all those seeking spiritual guidance.
Kehot Publication Society, Chabad’s publishing house, is ready to update the learning experience offered by Lessons in Tanya, but is depending on the public to make it happen.
For the last 3 years, a team of scholars at Kehot revised and redesigned the entire five-volume set. The aesthetically beautiful new edition, with its creative new layout and vocalized Hebrew, was showcased in the weekly study booklet, Chayenu.
“The five volumes have been completely re-typeset in a brilliant new layout and design,” says Kehot Director Rabbi Yosef B. Friedman.”Nikud has been added to help the beginners, and the flow of the Tanya and the commentary has been recast in very user-friendly format, enabling a smoother navigation of the various texts. Numerous corrections and improvements have been added as well.”
“Above all,” adds Rabbi Friedman, “the Rebbe’s glosses on the original Yiddish Lessons have been reviewed from the ksav yad kodseh and incorporated in the new edition.”
He said Kehot is ready to send the brand-new set to the printer and are crowdsourcing the publication, giving everyone a chance to be part of this historic upgrade of the Chasidic classic.

I would pay as well if they did a regular crowdfunding campaign; that is, we pre-pay for the book for a discount. If they don’t make the goal, then we get our funds returned.
Can’t pay anywhere near 720 though.. will buy it when it comes out for 100 or whatever it is
This is amazing idea, even I can partake in helping print the Tanya with even a 18$ donation, it makes sense that you have to give a larger amount to get a free set, but at least i can know i helped make this holy Sefer come into print.
Apparently, you need to donate $720 before you get a sefer. I get that they need dedicators, but they’re cutting out Yankel Todres, who would love to pre-order but can’t afford to be a big donor/dedicator.
There are more Yankel Todreses than big donors, so it seems they shouldn’t be left to wait until it’s fully funded, but I assume Kehos did make some cheshbon….
This isn’t called crowdfunding, if I donate $500 I should get a free set. Even if I donate the cost of the set I should get a free set. For most of the products on Kickstarter you get the item at below cost when you participate in the crowdfunding.

Why don’t they run a kickstarter campaign? A lot of people would pay for their purchases ahead of time as this will definitely sell out quick. And if you offer leather options people will pay a premium price.
