Sunday, September 18th, 2016, Brooklyn Heights Jewish Academy conducted a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to inaugurate the opening of a new building to house the up- and- coming Elementary school.
Located at 81 Atlantic Avenue, the building is a testament to this remarkable school’s philosophy and mission. BHJA’s reputation as a higher education institution committed to supporting the engagement of students in thinking about and enacting positive change is already well-known within the community.
Open and inviting classrooms offer students the ability to explore and create as they grow and learn, all the while providing a foundation based on the tenets of Judaism and the best of secular education. The building is carefully designed to flood with sunlight in this magnificent and innovative space.
At noon a flood of people arrived, excited to welcome this positive addition to the community. The guests came in from as far as Connecticut to help cheer on a school whose dream is to make its mark by raising the bar for education. A delicious brunch and refreshments were served, as well as cotton candy, a jumping castle, and face painting for the children.
Rabbi Aaron L. Raskin, Author, Senior Shliach and acclaimed Spiritual Leader of Brooklyn Heights, welcomed all of the guests, and spoke about the four pillars of the school; Love of G-D, Love of Torah, Love of Israel and Love of your fellow man.
Rabbi Shimon Hecht, the Senior Shliach of Park Slope, then sounded the Shofar. Marina Pinkhasik, the School Administrator, spoke of the latest innovations in education that will be integrated into the school’s curriculum.
Rabbi Yankel Raskin then tied a ceremonial ribbon across the main entrance of the building and handed out scissors to all the donors and supporters who had assisted in the actualization of this wonderful project.
On cue, everyone cut the ribbon together, shouted Mazal Tov, and went back inside for L’chaims, unveiling of the plaques, and affixing the Mezuzahs. The celebration was a great way to start off the New Year! Mazal Tov!

My son goes to this school, and it truly offers one of the best education in all of Brooklyn, and beyond! They have accredited teachers, small class sizes, a thorough curriculum in both Hebrew and English subjects, and lots and lots of warmth and love to the students. Honestly, we were absolutely blown away by the thoroughness of the curriculum, and how they teach our children. For example, just yesterday, they took all the kids to the local farmers market to talk to bee keepers, and choose out apples and honeycomb while learning about Rosh Hashana.
