How do you add a sense of Hakhel to an already energized Shabbos in overnight camp?
On Erev Shabbos, Parshas Balak, the campers of Camp Chomeish in Moodus, Connecticut, excitedly got into formation to pose for an aerial photo of Tzivos Hashem.
They were completely taken by surprise when the helicopter itself landed on camp grounds and out walked none other than Rabbi Shimmy Weinbaum, General of Chayolei Tzivos Hashem Brigade.
The “Hakhelopter” has been an exciting feature throughout the past year in the Tzivos Hashem Hakhel Global Rallies, as reported on COLlive.com. It has also been a focus in weekly camp skits.
It was only natural that the excitement was immediately channeled into a supercharged rally, led by the girls of each rank in Tzivos Hashem.
After the rally, a Tzivos Hashem General along with 8 lucky raffle winners had a chance to board the “Hakhelopter” and check out Camp Chomeish’s sprawling campgrounds from the air.

This kicked off an extraordinary, nonstop Shabbos. Mrs. Zeldie Weinbaum led the rousing davening and Rabbi Weinbaum farbrenged throughout Shabbos for the enthralled campers, staff and a special group of Released Time girls who joined for Shabbos.
He shared incredible stories, practical tricks for fighting the Yetzer Hara, and encouraged the girls to be Mekushar to the Rebbe and prepare for Moshiach.
Shabbos culminated with a special Motzei Shabbos bonfire story by Rabbi Weinbaum. The staff enjoyed an incredible Stump the Rabbi and Rebbetzin Session with a few soul-stirring Farbrengens.
