I want to share some great happenings in the world of shidduchim from our community of Los Angeles.
Last year before Shavuos 5775, not one girl from our large Chabad community had gotten engaged for a whole year.
Frustration, fear and a whole gambit of feelings were felt and often expressed by many.
Our shul, Congregation Levi Yitzchak Lubavitch of Los Angeles has a weekly kiddish and farbrengen. A group of women took on a hachlata: why not use the power of being together each week to daven for shidduchim?!
We began with a heartfelt request to Hashem, and then we all took turns mentioning all the singles by their full Jewish name followed by a resounding “amen” by all the participants, after each name.
We included bochurim and girls. Then we announced each kappitel (in English and Hebrew) and each person recited it.
In the back of the tehillim, it lists these particular chapters for a shidduch.
The kapitelach are:
לב, לח, ע, עא, קכא, קכד, קנ
32, 38, 70, 71, 121, 124, 150
We also pause once or twice to listen to a hora’ah or letter from the Rebbe or a story, concerning marriage or shidduchim which increases our kavana.
That first week, Boruch Hashem, a girl from Los Angeles got engaged.
We were so excited. We said our Tehillim with passion.
The next week 2 girls became engaged.
The following week was the Shabbos preceding Shavuos. That Shabbos there was a special luncheon in honor of Shabbos Achdus ,כאיש אחד בלב אחד and many ladies stayed in Shul reciting Tehillim.
Right after Shavuos, there were 4 more engagements, Boruch Hashem.
To date, we have 38 couples married from our community since the ladies began this project.
We encourage you to do the same and may Hashem bless all our communities that all the singles find their bashert.
The list is in the back of most nuschaos of Tehillim, but not in our nusach. Of course all Tehillim are good.
thank you for posting something so positive and real.
This is amazing! Gives such hope, and keeps focus on the real shidduchim maker and the one managing it all.
We need to do our hishtadlus and then ultimately remember its our davening to the Aibishter that does all the difference.
So inspiring! Keep up the great work and great news!
Mazel tov to all past and future Simchas! Keep ’em coming
Also recommended to read Shidduch Secrets.
Also: when married and singles are more careful about tsniut it helps everyone focus on marriage. It’s a spiritual goldmine!
…to #25,
amen, thank you, I’m not a girl anymore, but I trust in Hashem’s plan
Wow amazing BH!
To the girl still waiting – it is hard and we see your pain. We want you to also be bentched to meet your bashert and he should be an amazing husband for you.
