Throughout the day and all night-long, dozens of volunteers filled The Shluchim Office building, helping raise $500,000 for their 2016 donor drive.
There were even some who – not wanting to leave their baby at home alone – decided to come together as a family. “It’s actually surprising how fun it can be to fundraise,” said Chana G. “People were really friendly, and it’s so fulfilling when you watch a new donation you put in pop up on the screen.“
With Pizza, Sushi and Slush machines – and a special palette preview by makeup artist Nechi Gudelsky of Color my Style – the volunteers managed to have a great time while making their phone calls.
And they stayed through the night as well. “I get a call for the campaign,” said A.S. from Melbourne, Australia, “and suddenly I realize that it’s 2:00am in New York! It’s really amazing. I decided to triple my donation on the spot.”
Commenting on the large number of volunteers, Rabbi Gedalya Shemtov, Director of The Shluchim Office said: “I would really like to thank the members of Crown Heights community for coming out and volunteering for this campaign. It’s beautiful to see the community support.”
As the morning sun peeked over the buildings of Brooklyn, Israeli volunteers were still hard at work calling shluchim and anash as they began their work day hundreds of miles away, and could be seen downing copious cups of coffee in between phone calls spoken in rapid-fire Hebrew.
