Excuse me for writing this, but to me, it doesn’t seem proper to call food taken from a simcha a doggy bag. A more kavod way of describing would probably be better.

Taking a doggy bag home from a bris, etc.

I thought there is some kind of inyon to take some modest portion of challa, cake, fruit or whatever home

He explains why it’s not stealing, but not why people davka do it, and davka at a bris. As I understand it the reason is that it’s a big zechus to participate in the seudah of a bris, and since not everyone is able to come, you take home some food for them and when they eat it they get the credit as if they had attended. I know of an instance when a seudas bris was held around noon, and shortly before mincha a piece of cake was sent to the Rebbe. That day the Rebbe did not say… Read more »
