Escorted by mounted and motorcycle Police and the school’s 10 member drumming band, Maimonides of Albany, NY students proudly paraded colorful Hakhel Banners down prestigious State Street, from the front steps of the New York State Capital, to Historic Albany City Hall where they were graciously greeted by Mayor Kathy Sheehan.
Transported by a fleet of CDTA Buses, the parade crossed the new Pedestrian Walkway to the Corning Preserve on the shores of the Hudson River for a 12 Pesukim Rally.
Maimonides art teachers and students designed creative “Better Together” Hakhel sets, even though they are different we all need each other to be complete such as the Sukkos four kinds, ufarazta Four Directions, different Jews at the Kosel, the Tehillim’s various musical instruments, the 12 Shevatim, letters in Torah, and the 12 Tribes.
In the afternoon, hundreds celebrated Lag B’omer at the new Huck Finn’s Amusement park, co-sponsored by Capital Chabad, the Albany JCC and Northeastern Jewish Federation.
