Jerusalem’s Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar walked around the historic campus of Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim Lubavitch in the French town of Brunoy with visible awe.
Billed as the largest Yeshiva in Europe, it was founded in 1947 (5707) by the Previous Lubavitcher Rebbe. Over its 70 years of operation, despite financial strains in the early years, it has educated thousands.
During his visit, Rabbi Amar was shown the new Beis Baruch building on the Yeshiva campus built by Jewish philanthropist Gennady Bogolyubov in memory of his late father Baruch OBM.
Some 320 students of various ages currently study in the Yeshiva and Rabbi Amar was honored with presenting a shiur to the eldest group of the Yeshiva Zal.
Rabbi Amar recalled how, growing up in Morrocco, he remembers young boys traveling to the Yeshiva in Brunoy and returning as “great Talmidei Chachamim” and teaching Torah across Morrocco.
He was flanked by Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Yechiel Kalmenson and directors Rabbi Itche Neminov and Rabbi Mendel Gurevich who also invited him to affix a new Mezuzah on a doorpost.
As a parting gift, the Yeshiva presented to Rabbi Amar book of Torah discussions written this past year by the students and faculty – a testament to the vibrant and rigorous study in this Chabad Yeshiva.
