Chaim Javitz, a bus driver who has been serving the tri-State area for decades, has suffered a financial loss after a group of youths torched the bus that he owns.
A Crown Heights resident, Javitz is the owner of BSD Bus Corp, which owns the bus which was set on fire by a group of youths on Sunday. He is known to many in the neighborhood as a bus driver for the local schools for many years.
In later years, with many schools acquiring their own buses, Javitz has retained 2 buses, which he uses to supplement local school bus services when needed and Shluchim whose children are visiting Crown Heights.
He also services Chabad Day Schools in the Tri-State area as well as bochurim of the weekly Released Time program to Public Schools. In the summer, he goes upstate and helps the camps with their local transportation needs.
After Sunday’s shocking and senseless destruction of his bus while it was parked in front of Bais Rivkah, he is left with only one bus to run his business – and he lost a big chunk of his livelihood.
“Chaim has been serving Crown Heights residents with a smile for everyone regardless of the time,” says Yirmy Vanhalem, a Lubavitcher who has set up a fundraising site to help Javitz. “His family is going through a difficult time but he never asks for anything – Chaim is always giving, never taking.
“He doesn’t have the funds to buy another bus and the insurance will probably not pay as it wasn’t an accident,” Vanhalem says. “I hope everyone from Anash will donate so we can together help him get back on his feet again.”

this is one case where i was sure there would be no ‘bitter, not nice’ comments. well, i was wrong. get a life people. if you can help financially NOW, do so, if you can’t, at least don’t throw stones. really. so disappointed in us.

There is no cause more worthy than this. Chaim always comes through for people, it’s time we do this for him. He has enough going on already, we should take care of this at least.
A car needs what’s called “comprehensive insurance” to be covered for every misfortune. Many people can’t afford that and just by liability or by liabilty and accident insurance. This wasn’t an accident. It was a deliberate crime that I doubt owner of bus forsaw. If every community member purchased every type of insurance out there, we would have no money for tzedaka etc. v’dal. (Obviously one should still buy the major ones like home fire insurance, life insurance, health insurance etc.).
I know the Javitzes personally. They are great people. Even with insurance, it is a difficult process, and we should help if we can!

If you get a good lawsuit lawyer they for sure will you can also sue the parents of the kids and get them taken from the parents who didn’t raise them right and put in foster care so they can’t collect money on them. That will send a message to the kids, their parents, and community. We need to ensure there is serious action taken against serious attacks or we are just like sheep going to gas chambers.
Like the first two people who sent in their comments, I also agree that the holligans who destroyed the bus should pay. It was THEIR doing so consequently it’s THEIR responsibility they should not get away with this.

with all due respect the kids responsible for making this fire should be responsible for all the damage and loss. Let them have a consequence. Tough luck if they cant come up with the money let them go beg for the money in there school and they will feel very ashamed. Next time they want to do something like this they will think twice before ruining someones property and parnassah.
