Our phone calls will transform impossible to inevitable
May 9, 2016 10:02 am

Having been deeply involved with this issue for the past 23 years please be assured that this could not have come at a more opportune time, when several thousand phone calls to Congress (202-224-3121) from all 435 congressional districts, will break through this “brick wall,” which political pundits consider impossible to breach. However, those actually serving in Congress and state legislatures have told us the very opposite. “No Congressman or Senator wants to be known as the one who lost his seat. Flooding your public officials with phone calls will result in action.” Now that all 435 seats in the… Read more »

The ones who whine the most are the ones you see picking up kids at 3. 770 at 10. 16 and 30. Yup. We worked our entire lives to educate our kids. Volunteering to help with grandkids and paying for great grandkids. Get a job or train for better one.

The State of Ohio pays a voucher of $4,500 per child for day school tuition. In addition, by law, a family of 6 with income below $65,000 pays no tuition at all.

A little bit of light
May 8, 2016 1:48 pm

“A little bit of light dispels much darkness.” The solution to this severe crisis is now at hand. All we need do is call our representatives in Congress at 202-224-3121 and judiciously and persistenty prevail on them to uphold their oath of office – “to secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity” – by signing onto the Education Freedom Accounts Act (S2455/H.R.4426). Every political pundit can assure you that our clarion call to all Americans concerned with this crisis to place these call will solve this between now and November 8. As our leading school choice Senator… Read more »

That had to raise money for their OWN yeshiva tuition !!!!!!!
One of them raised more then 10,000

What is wrong with our system??
Maybe I should not have more then three kids ?
And even if you make north of 100 thousand, the schools will eat you too death,

Let’s just say you guys have a lot of work to do?

They do becaus they can
May 8, 2016 3:12 am

I will never send my kids to a chabad school. When schools in florida get 5k step up yet the chabad yeshiva STILL makes low income parents pay? Shame, shame, shame. #16 is right… sadly…its all a scam, we all know it and dont care till we find out it costs 1100 to send a 3 year old to school!! Competition is healthy, give them a run for their money.. STOP thinking YOU NEED the well established mosdos ENOUGH. I’d bet good $ that those well connected get easy passes.. in fact #16 is slightly wrong because if there was… Read more »

The issue is the summer camps. If they were non profit, our community would have substantially more funds for tuition. Think about it, the camp grounds were purchased with Tzedaka Money, while 3 families live a life of luxury off of this Tzedaka while charging exorbitant fees for the summer camp

We have the money
May 8, 2016 12:04 am

for chinese auctions and chinese food
For sushi and sifrei torah
for ostentatious mikvas and eye popping bat mitzvas,
bar mitzvas that look like chasunehs
etc.
The money is here.
I suggest that anybody making a simcha more elaborate that a basic standard that needs to be agreed upon, anyone doing a charidy fundraiser, etc, should give 10% of the cost, or receipts, to a central tuition fund to be used exclusively for paying teachers.
the money’s there. We just aren’t focusing on using it to save our schools.

I always send my husband to deal with tuition, I’m scared to go there.

Thanks

There isn’t a family I know that isn’t hurting from tuition, I just hope he can do something, Lots of hatzlacha!!!

May 7, 2016 11:24 pm

#26 I hear your quandy. While you mention that you went through the system and are not ‘educated’ its not to late to learn more skills and try to diversify your skill sets to give you more opportunities. Your salary is not so bad all things considered, but yes to deal with tuition, this requires more. That said may I humbly suggest you check out the Crown Heights Young Entrepreneurs and see if they can suggest something. Start going to their workshops you never know. Hatzlacha!!

Question.
May 7, 2016 10:59 pm

I went to Oholey Torah my entire life, shortly thereafter I got married and Baruch I was blessed with 2 children already. In a few days I’m meeting Ohoely Torah to discuss tuition for the 3 year old boy I want to send there next year. All jokes aside with the salary I make now I don’t have .5 cents to my name. What’s the solution for secular uneducated guys that went through the system that make $50-60K and they use all that money to pay rent and groceries. Should we rob? Beg?Steal? Maybe put the kids in public schools… Read more »

May 7, 2016 10:42 pm

I think its a beautiful thing what u r doing i dont mean to knock anyone but i think that the rent crisis should also be discussed at the same time. Maybe there will also be a solution

Lubavitch can solve this.
May 7, 2016 10:38 pm

The fact that we are located in every population center in the USA affords us the opportunity to lead the way to solving the tuition crisis. The volume of phone call, especially now when the House is up for election, can solve this problem now. A nationwide campaign on behlalf of the school choice bill for D.C. will undoubtedly cause shockwaves on behalf of this issue. We can no longer rely on others to do this for us. Everyone of us needs to place these calls to Congress at 202-224-3121. Most take messages at off hours.

There is no greater form of prejudice
May 7, 2016 10:32 pm

But we have no choice and we need to start to create a tuition free environment for the younger generation and the money will come from various Jewish trusts and organizations

May 7, 2016 10:10 pm

Sounds like a great idea, I wish you lots of luck. It would be an amazing thing for the community. Hope it works out.

great idea
May 7, 2016 10:05 pm

The govt has no rachmonos on what is happening to the poor and middle class of society. A Jew who has expenses of tuition, kosher food, weddings etc. which is more than an average non Jew has, l’havdil, needs people to have compassion and come up with solutions that work. so we welcome this type of meeting and hope it will really present something workable for everyone.

Solving the crisis!
May 7, 2016 9:42 pm

Everyone can help solve this crisis by placing phone calls to Congress (202-224-3121) to judiciously and persistently prevail on our representatives to sign onto the Education Freedom Accounts Act (S.2455/H.R.4426). This will empower all D.C. parents to rescue their children from substandard D.C. Public Schools and send them to quality schools of their choice. This will also send a powerful message to all 50 state legislatures on our to “secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.”

Go fundraise
May 7, 2016 9:07 pm

If the schools would only fundraiser there wouldn’t be a crisis, it’s their job!!!! There is only so much you can milk a dry cow

Yada Yada Yada
May 7, 2016 2:28 pm

The cynic in me doesn’t see any different “solutions”, just more of the same rhetoric. There can be no solution to this problem without a few basic beginnings: 1. Trim the fat – get rid of the top tiers of administration. Their salaries and perks are outrageous. 2. Get rid of nepotism & cronyism – implementing #1 will lead to this. Hiring incompetent Family & friends at inflated salaries is cheating everyone – except the lucky hirees. 3. Bring in QUALIFIED, capable administrators who will keep proper books, ensure financial accountability, and who will behave in a responsible and FAIR… Read more »

Melbourne
May 7, 2016 5:06 am

Please don’t look to Melbourne on this issue.
The YBR CAPS scheme is unfair and discriminatory.
Some families are billed $40K for 2 kids and other families are billed $5K for 6 kids.
Also, the asset limit does not increase per child.

I can't wait to hear a solution
May 6, 2016 7:07 pm

To a very difficult problem facing all streams of orthodoxy.
Believe me, there are no easy solutions to this one.

Yaasher koach!
May 6, 2016 7:01 pm

May it be a real lechatchila ariber!

the solution is to be found where the problem lays: CAMP
May 6, 2016 6:53 pm

Here is another symptom of a crisis: when parents are forced to pay for 6 weeks what they want to pay for 10 months, it is a CRISIS.
Schools should be open for 11 months and tuition should include summer programs. Or camps should be run by the schools and all that summer profit will help a lot with the overall budget.
Adequate fundraisers should also be a priority for every institution.

Great!
May 6, 2016 6:44 pm
