The Lubavitcher Rebbe opposed adding a daily prayer for the Holocaust in the Siddur, the newly published volume 57 of the Torah Menachem – Hisva’aduyos series reveals.
Speaking during a Shabbos farbrengen at Lubavitch World Headquarters – 770 Eastern Parkway, the Rebbe discussed the idea and the demands of the wealthy individual promoting it, without naming him.
The donor demanded of a Polish Chassidic Rebbe to add the prayer and was refused since because of the common notion not to alter the current version of the Siddur.
This led the donor to accuse that Polish Rebbe of “not caring about the 6 million victims,” despite the fact that this particular Chassidic group has lost many of its followers to the atrocities of the Nazis during the Second World War.
And on a summer Shabbos in 5729, the Lubavitcher Rebbe came out in defence of that Polish Rebbe, noting the instruction of the Torah of “not adding” to what is instructed and practised, as Rashi states in his commentary to Breishis 3:3.
The Rebbe then said that the donor, was “threatening that if they won’t do as he says they will not allocate money to build a holy institution where they teach children to pray 3 times a day!”
The Rebbe added that although it seemed like an idea that didn’t have a downside to it, one needs to know where to add and who is qualified to do so. Since the Polish Rebbe has decided against it, this decision must be respected.
In the same Sicha, the Rebbe notified that the Mivtzah Tefillin campaign that began during the Six Day War has not ended, but should rather be strengthened.
The Rebbe quoted Jewish sages that Tefillin has the power to make Israel’s enemies fearful of the Jewish people.
The new 656-page volume of Toras Menachem compiles the talks of the Rebbe spanning the period from Shabbos Parshas Chukas-Balak 5729, through Erev Rosh Hashanah of 5730.
Published by Lahak publications, Many of the talks have never before appeared in print and others have never been published in book form.
Included in the volume are 10 maamarim (discourses) and the entire book is fully indexed according to topics, verses and even sources such as Rashi, Pirkei Avos and Tanya Igeres Hateshuva.
Among the issues the Rebbe raised that period was a sharp call on Yeshiva bochurim to focus on their studies and a remarks after a special Sefer Torah arrived from the Jews of Tunisia.
Torat Menachem Vol. 57 – 5729 Part 4 is sold in leading bookstores and at Kehot.com

After the worst nightmare in the history of the Jewish nation, there were some wealthy non-religious Jews who decided that they have the exclusive “copyright” over the holocaust, and only they may evoke the holocaust when it suits them. If anyone uses the “h” word without their permission, they are automatically condemned. These “holocaust police” have decided that certain things must be done to memorialize the holocaust, and if you don’t fall in line with their rules, you are ironically condemned as unsympathetic. How often do you hear the ADL standing up for Israel? Day in and day out innocent… Read more »
