A project started to help the Crown Heights organization Keren Simchas Chosson V’Kallah, which pays for wedding expenses for needy couples, has also helped many girls and bochurim find their shidduch.
For the past few years, Shlucha Devora Caytak of Ottawa, Canada has been helping to raise funds for the organization run by Devorah Benjamin, spearheading efforts to raise $100 from 100 people to help pay for weddings of orphans.
Each time, Devorah Benjamin and the Kallah read all the names submitted at the Rebbe’s Ohel and davened that they should find their bashert.
The hope was, in the merit of giving Tzedakah, the bochur or girl would merit to find their proper Shidduch, she said.
Following each drive, a number of singles who had donated reported that they had found their bashert.
“After we raised money for one orphan, people started calling us, saying that the segulah had worked,” Caytak says. “One woman told us nothing had been moving for her daughter, and after taking part in the project they have a serious name being discussed. Another said a suggestion that had come up for her son the year before and they had turned down, they had for some reason checked into again – and the couple was about to get engaged. People just kept coming back with stories,” she said.
Caytak is currently running another effort for the upcoming wedding of an orphan, with the goal of raising $10,000 in honor of Yud Alef Nissan, the Rebbe’s birthday.
“It is well known that when you daven for another, the Aibeshter answers your prayers first, and when you give tzedakah to help out with hachnosas Kallah, this is a segulah for helping your own child find a shidduch,” says Caytak. “The Aibeshter does not remain a baal chov.”
Parents and friends should send in the bochur or girl’s full name and their mother’s name with credit card information ($100 per name) to Devora Caytak [email protected] or call 613 729 7712 or go to www.jewishyouthlibrary.com and click on donate.
