Bais Chana High School in Orange, CT held a meaningful Mother/Daughter evening in honor of Chof Beis Shvat.
Working with madricha Shterny Levitin the girls were involved in all aspects of the preparations, from making lovely invitations to decorating the dining area in a most festive way.
Over a delicious dinner, mothers enjoyed the beautiful ROOTS projects created by the students. Under the direction of teachers, Rabbi Shlomo Bogart, Rabbi Levi Schectman, and Mrs. Chanie Wilhelm, students researched their “roots” from Yud Tes Kislev to Chaf Bais Shevat.
The different rebbeim and various aspects of the lives of the Rebbe and Rebbetzin were studied and students in all grades prepared creative presentations in addition to their research papers.
This year saw the addition of Project Witness, where students learned all about the escape and rescue of the Frierdiker Rebbe in coming to America. The evening was topped off with a kumsitz led by Mrs. Rifkie Brod where mothers and daughters joined together in song and learned many new insights into the background of several niggunim.
According to 10th grader, Zeesy Phillips, “My research into the Roots project, gave me the opportunity to see how much of an influence shlichus has on the world and the care the Rebbe showed each shliach individually.”
The mother/daughter evening was a proud night for Bais Chana as students had the chance to showcase their talents and all that they do on a regular basis at school. Using the inspiration of the Rebbetzin on 22 Shevat, BCA continues to proudly educate the leaders of tomorrow.
Bais Chana is located just 1.5 hours from Crown Heights and offers dorm facilities. Under the loving care of dorm counselors, Menuch Borchov and Heni Shaikevitz, and dorm mother, Leah Teitelbaum, the dorm is a home-away-from-home for BCA’s out-of-town students.
