Every Thursday night, a group of some 50 male Jewish students from the Sorbonne and other universities in Paris meet at a single location.
It is not at a karaoke bar or theater that they unwind from a week of learning and exams. Instead, these students opt to take on additional study.
Their place of attraction is the Chabad on Campus in the center of France’s capital city where they are paired with students of Yeshiva Tomchei Temimim Lubavitch from the nearby town of Brunoy.
Together, university and Yeshiva students disconnect from Western society and enter the world of the Babylonian Talmud, analyzing questions and explanations of our sages.
The Jewish student center was the brainchild of Paris Head Shliach Rabbi Moule Azimov, opening 3 years ago. It is managed by Shliach Rabbi Mendel Aronow.
After the chavrusa learning, students listen to a Talmudic shiur given by Shliach Rabbi Elchanan Dov Marozov. This past week, it was given by the Brunoy Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Yechiel Kalmenson.
The Thursday Beth Medrash is one of the programs that this branch of Beth Lubavitch offers, in addition to Shabbos meals, lectures and holiday programs.
“Our Chabad house is seeing ‘success above comprehension’, as the Rebbe told Rabbi Azimov,” says Rabbi Aronow. “We are in touch with hundreds of students on a regular basis.”
Great to see actual learning !!!!
Maybe other places can do the same!
It’s really nice to see how much work is being done in that city!
