In a bold new ebook aptly titled, “Hashem Needs You,” renowned lecturer, author, and scholar, Rabbi Manis Friedman makes the case for how much Hashem needs you – perhaps even more than you need Him.
This new ebook, based on Rabbi Friedman’s lectures and transcribed by Zev Gotkin, is positively changing the way people relate to Hashem and to Yiddishkeit.
Does Hashem care if I wrap tefillin, light Shabbos candles, or keep kosher? Does it hurt Him if I decide not to? In “Hashem Needs You,” Rabbi Friedman says: Yes. Radical as it may seem, the mitzvot are not only for us, but for Hashem as well. And He is counting on us to fulfill His purpose for bringing the world into existence.
More than that, Rabbi Friedman demonstrates succinctly once and for all that Judaism is not merely a religion, but a relationship with G-d. And a relationship can only thrive when it is free of coercion and the capacity for both love and rejection is present. This is the history of the connection between G-d and the Jewish people, Manis Friedman explains, and it is the most deeply personal story ever told.
Many Jews who received an otherwise stellar Jewish education and studied in the finest yeshivos and seminaries are lacking the awareness that Hashem needs them. In fact, it’s often taught in our schools that Hashem doesn’t need us at all. This ebook sets out to change this misconception and bring the Jewish people back to a healthier and happier service of Hashem.
And this is why this ebook is so incredibly needed right now. It shows people how vital they are to the Divine plan. “[This ebook] has opened my mind and made me see things differently than I ever did before. I now realize how beautiful and satisfying it is to be in a real relationship with Hashem and it makes me want to serve Him in a deeper, more selfless way,” said Malka Bernstein of Pittsburgh.
Drawing down some of the loftiest ideas in Chassidus, “Hashem Needs You” explains that Hashem is simultaneously perfect and vulnerable to our freedom of choice in a way that is readable, accessible and full of Rabbi Friedman’s trademark wit and down-to-earth style. Both the learned scholar and the simplest of Jews will find its content fresh and enlightening.
In a relatively brief 59 pages, “Hashem Needs You” completely transforms our understanding of what it means to connect to Hashem.
Explaining the concept of Hashem needing our avoda and applying it to a plethora of subjects ranging from parenting to marriage to prayer to reward and punishment, “Hashem Needs You,” is the small sefer that is sure to make a great impact.

Agreed with #16. G-d is the manifestation of perfection and completeness and isn’t lacking anything to “need” something. In fact, as G-d is above time any potential accomplishments we “produce” are already materialized by him. I am suspicious of anybody who claims to understand this.
This is a basic foundation in jewish thought and expounded upon in Chassidus. Even if the Rabbi will split hairs that Hashem is perfect and at the same time gains from your efforts, Chassidus is clear that it is because what he wants will happen regardless and you are not allowed to say that he “needs” your actions.
Nice work Zalman and the whole team!

I have heard a lot about Hashem needing us, from my sister who goes to all Rabbi Friedman’s classes. Very curious to read it. I’m happy it’s now in written form. I’m not really the lecture type. He saved my marriage with the Blush book, now he can save the rest of my life!! I can’t wait!
This is wonderful news!
I can’t wait to read it!
A few of Rabbi Friedmans talks are transcribed and sold in pamphlets for $2 at the Levi Yitzchok library. They’re gems!!
Is there more than one other book by Rabbi M. Friedman? The only other one I know of is “Doesn’t Anyone Blush Anymore?”
If there are others, I’d love to know about them! Thanks.
You hear rabbi Friedman speak and it’s brilliant and then you find out it’s a maamar that learned, often many times, and you just never understood it. Thank you rabbi Friedman and thank you zev gotkin.
Awesome! Can’t wait….
Thank you. I thought someone should start compiling his talks and publishing them
this is going to be a great addition to my collection of Manis Freidman books!
