The Orthodox Jewish growth in what was once known as the Borsht Belt of secular Jews will be visible again this summer when a new chassidic bungalow colony opens its gates.
A cluster of 64 housing units in Evergreen Circle in the Loch Sheldrake area of the town of Fallsburg in Sullivan County will be housed by Chabad families from Crown Heights and elsewhere.
The building of 52 new units and the construction of 12 older ones was completed in the beginning of the winter, Zalman Wilhelm, the coordinator of the development, told COLlive.com.
Covering 2,250 square feet, homes feature 4 bedrooms, a living room, a dining room attached to the kitchen, 3 restrooms, a laundry room, 2 private parking spaces and decks in the front and back.
While there have been contracts signed and homes already sold, there remains a number of additional spacious homes for sale for the price of $199,900.
Developed by the East Concord Group, homes are winterized and include a walk-in basement which can be used as a playroom or used as 2 bedrooms. There is year-round maintenance of the property to trim the grass and shovel the snow.
The grounds include a shul with a day camp in its basement which will be run with a parallel boys and girls division, a swimming pool and a kiddie pool, a playground, a basketball and tennis court.
“Everything is up and running,” Wilhelm said. “It’s a great opportunity to live in a beautiful new place that is fairly priced. Potentially, with more contracts being signed, we will have a fully functional campus.”
Its close proximity to the town of Parksville and the Chabad boys Camp Gan Israel and to supermarkets and eateries in Woodbourne and South Fallsburg, makes the location ideal.
