Last week saw hundreds of women from Crown Heights gather together to learn some insights about parenting and chinuch.
Many times mothers use tricks and tips from their pockets and find that they work. What does that mean? “It worked!” is relative. It might have worked to provide a temporary or short term solution, but it may not have worked long term to mold your child into a responsible child.
After all, stressed Dr. Sora Yaroslawitz, DSc OTR/L and author of “Are Your Hands Full?”, everything your child experiences when they are young, molds his very being. More important than focusing on the fact that the juice spilled or Mendel went to bed a little late, etc…mothers should rather focus on ‘chuppah’ problems, problems that move together with children into married life. Having kabbolas ol, anger management, honesty, being mevater, these are traits that need to be imparted. after all, a child only has a little over 7,000 to acquire the important things in life and to learn how to be responsible for their actions and to do the right thing because it’s the right thing, not for a prize or chart. Dr. Sora also advised you can’t pick every battle, win every battle you pick. You can never ‘unpick’ a battle.
To top off the evening, the women enjoyed browsing over 15 vendors selling children related products including, clothes, accessories, toys and books.
Special thanks to Bais Rivkah Head Start, Apple Drugs, Raskin Fruitstore and Dr. Plaut for sponsoring the evening.
Coming up next, parenting series for preteens, an evening of health awareness and a great sholom bayis workshop.
