Students of HaMesivta of United Lubavitcher Yeshiva Ocean Parkway in Brooklyn got to daven with a Sefer Torah that belonged to the Mitteler Rebbe.
The Sefer Torah is used in a Shul in Flatbush, where the Yeshiva went to daven Shachris.
The occasion was to mark Kislev 9, both the birthday and yartzeit of Rabbi DovBer of Lubavitch, second Chabad Rebbe, and his day of liberation from Czarist prison on Kislev 10.
Members of the shul related that the Sefer Torah was handed down for many generations but was eventually confiscated by the KGB in communist Russia.
The story goes that two Jews who worked for the KGB smuggled the Torah away and gave it to a family who smuggled it out of Russia.
The kibudim were sold to the bochurim to the highest bidder for over one hundred and seventy five of hours of extra learning, said Rabbi Moshe Lieblich, head of HaMesivta.
Mendel raksin 🙂
Two Jews in Russia who worked for the Communist government smuggled it out?! That’s amazing! Truly mesires nefesh! Their pintele Yid was so much brighter than the darkness of communist Russia.
Keep up the good work
