The Sunday dollars started then. But on various occasions the Rebbe would give dollars beforehand.

Starting in the yuds the Rebbe would give bochurim chanukah gelt, for example.
During private audiences people would recurved money.

Many times by farbrengen the Rebbe would distribute DG dollars to “tankisten” is prior that any on the mitzvah tanks

Children for coins for tzedaa on the way in and it of shul…

Yasher Koach, Moshe Klien!

As hosts to this family during their stay in Crown Heights, we got to hear this story firsthand as it transpired. We met his parents, people who were very connected to the shliach in their town. I gave them one of my dollars as a segula until their son would recover…which BH, he did. About a year or so later, I remembered the dollar and called the shluchim to ask if I should request it back. They told me that it made such an impact on them that if… Read more »

I can not imagine what it took to give someone their own Rebbe’s dollar, just like that, for no money. What a zchus to have been part of this families connection to yiddishkeit. May this selfless act continue to have rippled affects…
