As hundreds stood on Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn mourning the passing of the beloved Shliach and Mashpia Rabbi Aaron Eliezer Ceitlin on Thursday, on the other side of the globe a newborn baby was named after him.
News of the passing of the 62-year-old firebrand chossid had spread quickly and reached Australia as Moshe and Rivky Cyrulnik, members of the Chabad community in Melbourne, were preparing for the bris of their son.
“Everyone was very shaken up by the news,” Moshe Cyrulnik told COLlive.com. The Australian community felt very close to him. He lifted us up and brought real chayus to our lives.”
Ever since being sent there by the Rebbe on Shlichus between the years 1973-1975, Rabbi Ceitlin has built a close bond with the Australian community. He would visit at least once a year and receive support for his network of Chabad kindergartens and daycare centers in the holy city of Tzfas.
“People enjoyed him and his inspiration,” Cyrulnik said. “I didn’t know him personally, but would always see him in Melbourne and when he would come, we would all attend his farbrengens for men and women.”
The Cyrulniks had a name in mind for their son but decided there was a particular name that was more appropriate at this time.
“It says that Hashem gives ruach hakodesh to the parents and I felt this morning that we should name our son after Reb Aaron Lazar,” Moshe says. “It was an auspicious time to give this name after a person who accomplished so much in his lifetime.”
At the bris milah ceremony at Chabad on Carlisle-Jewish Russian Centre in Melbroune on Friday morning, the boy was named Aaron Eliezer – ben Rikvah.
Rabbi Ceitlin himself was Aaron Eliezer ben Rikvah…

We heard this while still at the Ohel and we, the family, were touched beyond words! This baby, should grow up to be a nachas to his family and the world like his namesake was to his family and the world. We feel a special connection to this baby and would love to meet him and see him.

The passing of Reb Aharon Laizer is a great loss for all of us.I always admired Aharon Laizer and spent many hours listening to his inspiring words. It is great Zchus for for me that our grandson is named after him
