Who are you people congratulating ? What are you celebrating? Just read Devarim 1:22 “Vatikrevun elai kulchem – You all approached me, in contrast with the orderly and respectful “and the heads of your tribes and elders approached me”. Rashi notes that when the population is engaged in a worthwhile endeavor, it conducts itself with dignity, and respect. On the other hand, when the population acts as a “multitude” ie.with a mob mentality, clamoring and agitating, pushing and shoving with great commotion – without respect for their leaders or elders, Es toig nish ! It’s unfortunately a sign of hefkeirus,… Read more »

May 25, 2009 4:45 pm

By the way, don’t be fooled. Rabbi Mangel, in his own little quiet way- with the hashpo-o that he has particularly on the Baal Tshuvos, behind the scenes instigates and advises the way he sees fit. It seems he has an agenda of his own. Just a thought.

smooth transition??!!

Even if this were a totally legal election both according to civil and halachic law, you don’t just storm in like a bunch of goons and evict people and change locks, and cause a total chilul Ha-Shem.
Even l’havdil Obama doesn’t come in the first day he wins election asking Busch to leave the white house and change the locks.
End of communism??!! Wait and see what’s in store for us!!

All right-thinking people owe a tremedous debt of gratitude and a “hakaros Ha-Tov” to Rabbi N. Mangel, who bravely wrote a clear and detailed letter exposing the half-truths and distortions of one of those who the Rebbe told “not to mix-in” and directly encouraging people to vote.. The sicha of Parshas Matos-Masai, 5746 begins with the Rebbe’s lamenting the then prevailing state of “shev v’al taasei.” that was paralyzing the community and preventing an election. And in this election we saw another passive, ineffective and “hands-off” “so-called authority” counseling people to “shev v’al taasei.” If I compare this to the… Read more »

What a chutzpah, to call everyone who lives in CH a farmer!

Firstly, ahavas yisroel doesn’t only apply to not-yet-religious. I can only wonder how you “mekarav” others!

Secondly, how can you talk like that when there are hundreds of couples ready, willing and waiting to go on shlichus–with hardly any openings?! How can you rub in their wounds by proclaiming that it’s their fault that they can’t fulfill their life’s dream, when it is so very very difficult to find a position! Think, think, think!

Try working on your ahavas yisroel first….Your comment was very disappointing.

You must be new in town. This has already been done! a group attempting to de-legitimize the vaad hakohol etc. did just that. they went to court and the result was a court ordered referendum that confirmed the rules as they stand today and therefore Court Approved. If you have any problem with the elected officials – the best way is to present candidates that YOU feel are good for the community – and go campaign amongst your so-called disenfranchised and disgruntled friends to come out en mass (as YOU claim that you are the majority of the community) and… Read more »

If people are so opposed to the election ...
May 25, 2009 4:25 am

Why doesn’t a woman resident of Crown Heights, an unmarried person or one of the many adult males prohibited from voting in this election just challenge the election in court for being illegal discrimination? If you complain of tyranny, there’s an easy solution: correct the whole election process.

But it seems that we’re all a little content with a little tyranny in our community and therefore afraid to challenge the leadership. Even the Osdoba camp doesn’t want to do the obvious because women would then be able to vote, and G-d forbid that should happen …

If you think this is the end of communism and the “Russian” style rule, wait to see what you’re gonna get from the new regime. Take note; many of the “behind the scenes” advisors, mashpiim, endorsers, etc. are Russian and still have the old Russian mentality imbued in them. No matter how lon they’ve been here, thay never lose it or change. Cadaner’s election is illegal and against the Community’s bylaws.

He directs and is involved in a mossad – Bais Chaya Mushka girls school on Carroll and some say also the Hendel’s Ohr Menachem boys school.

The bylaws state that a person involved with an organization cannot be elected because he won’t be able to properly serve all the institutions.

This is just one of the problems with these “elections”

Even a Rov is accountable to the community and has to explain his position. There are very clear instructions from the Rebbe that the Rabonim should not intervene in the elections, so there is a need for clear explanations if a Rov wants to cancel them, and I didn’t see such.

I was happy to be a free man, this morning, and have the ability to vote for our community leaders, as our Rebbe has wanted.

Tonight I’m even happier, not only because of the excellent results, but because one of the Castro’s within our society are leaving.

I think this is a very clear message to Rabbi Osdoba that being a Rav is not a political position. Crown Heights wants a Rav without corruption and political agendas.

Didn’t Shwei do just that? isn’t he the one pushing these elections? how come he is allowed to mix in to the elections? unless you don’t consider him a Rav…

only 924??
May 24, 2009 4:59 pm

What worng with you pepole 924 is a big turn out??? theregot to be over 2000 voters, so not even half of crown heights voted, so wow wow wow , at least there are some pepole that have some respect for the mivtzoim of the rebbe called AHAVAS YISROEL and held them self in till the rabonim find respect for the self.

Did you ever inquire as to the turnout in national elections?
It’s about the same!

To 22
May 24, 2009 4:54 pm

In theory I agree with you. However the Rebbe did say quite clearly that Rabbonim cannot mix in (if there should be elections, the only thing they can dispute are the actual candidates).

May 24, 2009 4:52 pm

If I”m not mistaken, the Rebbe explicitly said that the Rabonim should not mix in to the electoral process!

great acheivement.....but
May 24, 2009 4:43 pm

I can’t fathom why such a large kehilla like in CH and only 924 people voted. Were these the only ones who care about the shchunaoh? Still, kudos to the elected members and much hatzlochoh!

Its people with misconceptions like yours that is destroying our community.
The elections are “disputed” because our Rov told us not to vote.
The amount of people that showed up, (in direct defiance of the rov’s psak) has nothing to do with whether or not the elections are valid.

Unitl we, as a community will learn this very important lesson, that as a frum Jew you cannot just do as you please, but you must follow the rabbonim – we will never have any true peace in our neighborhood.

Following a crowd does not make something right.

have a safe trip

"disputed elections"???
May 24, 2009 4:28 pm

Doesn’t the high turnout dispel the notion of “disputed”???

Well done!

May 24, 2009 4:08 pm

If 900 residents can go out and vote against the wishes and directive of the senior Rov in the Shchuna, its time to leave.
