Pot is for morons
April 14, 2016 4:50 pm

Maske is *not* worse than pot. Stop repeating that lie. Mashke has and can be used to serve G-d in the highest manner as is evidence by the practice of tzadikim throughout the history of the Jewish nation. It’s enshrined in Halacha. You cannot point to a single point of evidence that the same holds true for pot. What confuses many simpletons is this: Alcohol abuse (in the obvious sense, not in the sense of mommies against farbregens) is likely worse than pot abuse. BUT the proportion of abusers to those who use it to good affect is much much… Read more »

re: getting it elsewhere...
October 22, 2015 2:41 am

Though deeply pained by this situation I really have no sagacious advice or surefire solutions to offer. Nobody is advocating that these young people not be loved or cared about, but how to reach them and convince them that they are destroying themselves is a question to which I have no answer. Having said this, I’m still having a hard time following the logic of those who seem to feel the situation should have been left alone and allowed to fester in the community because ‘ now they’ll have to go elsewhere for their drugs.’ Are you saying it’s preferable… Read more »

Help them when they're little kids!
October 12, 2015 6:01 pm

The Rebbe said in many sichos that the responsibility for a child’s chinuch lies with not only the parents and schools, but also the brothers and sisters, the bubbies and zaides, the aunts and uncles, and the NEIGHBORS! I see some very young neighbor kids whose parents are pretty dysfunctional and clueless, and others who are normal parents but the kids are just difficult. The kids get in trouble for 6-year-old or 9-year-old stuff. I have always tried to be the best neighbor I can to all kids by simply being kind to them, by keeping my mouth shut as… Read more »

This has already been happening on Montgomery Avenue since years ago. Perhaps still going on. Happy that they were turned in finally. Better to stop this drug problem than worrying about telling on another Yid, isn’t it?

im a bochur i n yeshiva and have seen some friends getting kicked out. the policy that i believe the rebbe set up is that you kick him out when he starts it have an affect on others. how do you think this developed to a group of 5 or 6 bochurim? most probably they were friends in yeshiva that were kicked out/dropped together. get rid of them before they turn into a group!

AS TONS OF YOU OTHERS HAVE JUST SAID WE NEED TO ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT INSTEAD OF WASTING TIME AND CHITTER CHATTERING OUR OWN OPINOINS!!!!!!!

on a more PERSONAL note
me, myself got addicted to cocaine and went to a chabad rehab in Los Angeles for 2 years -my uncle talked me into going- now boruch hashem 5 years later i am married with kenayne hara 3 beautiful children the best thing for these children is to be a rrested!!!!!!!!!!

October 11, 2015 12:12 am

Can’t judge the parents, I’m sure they did everything they can to help their children. Sometimes it’s the hard way through punishment that they shape up. Let’s hope that they and otherslearn their lesson

Addiction
October 9, 2015 5:33 pm

Everyone has a friend or knows someone that smokes pot regularly. Ask yourself if these people are criminals or if the majority of them are dysfunctional? Are they destroying their family or community around them? I think most of you would say that such assertions are ridiculous. Most people, due to the illegality of drugs, have made these substances worse then they really are. Almost everyone agrees that alcohol is worse for you then pot. No one has ever overdosed from pot. So what is the solution? The same solution to alcohol addiction. If someone was addicted to having multiple… Read more »

Rehab
October 9, 2015 2:48 pm

Rehab isn’t a cure, it is a means for people to try to find a better solution (people that actually go). It is left up to them after they leave just like if they decide on their own to stop. Rehab, if anything, gives people more the reason to not be afraid of using..

October 9, 2015 2:14 pm

Bh

An appeal for money for aliya and aliya girls ought to shut this conversation up.
These two (separately funded) organizations have undertaken the gargantuan task of assisting the youth.
If you’d like to be of help get in touch with them. The have huge budgets that don’t even nearly cover the need.
We all care. Let’s all do something!

addiction
October 9, 2015 12:52 pm

Addiction- a disease process model should be used.Often it is when they hit rock bottom that they seek help.No one can do it for them.I’ve seen the best of them hit rock bottom-as a nurse I’ve not seen many yidden-don’t live in CH-but I’ve seen lawyers, docs, etc hit it hard and when they lost it all, they finally sought help. They wanted it as much as their drugs. With teens, there should be support groups and avenues of help/rehab available to them.Instead of being slammed to the ground emotionally, they need intervention and assistance and guidance. They are kids! You’d be surprised what compassion can do.the 12-step program… Read more »

My brother got arrested for dealing anf that was his biggest yeshua. A lubavitch boy from the right family and all the yeshivas out there!
Went to rehab and joined NA. Some people just need to hit rock bottom in order to pick up.
Hashem should give their parents and siblings the Cochmah and strength to deal with this.

Each one of us should take a moment to reach out to a child. can be your own child and show them that they are a ben Yachid.

October 9, 2015 9:32 am

firstly 20, you’re hilarious.

and being familiar with getting busted for something i can truly say that it’s a blessing for them that they are in trouble with the law, because once that happens it often (and hopefully will for these kids) scares the wits out of people and really corrects them for their entire future. i hope fellow community members offered help first, but if that didn’t work, then as i said, it’s good they are getting put in their place now as youngsters.

Agree with #33
October 9, 2015 9:23 am

You are absolutely right, I personally experienced this when a well known magid shiur in a local yeshiva kicked me out and I brought this up to him in front of the entire class that it will be his achrayus if I end up marrying a shiksa and he cold heartedly said he didn’t care.

Mind you this may have been presented to the class for underperforming, however I know it was more because of my parents being unable to make some tuition payments.

October 9, 2015 8:31 am

The hardest part of being a chosid in this sitch is the bipolar position every yid expected to take. The actions of these men will be handled by a court of law. We are expected to step aside and leave it to the judge and jury. BUT shabis bereshis in jail?! NO. We are all responsible for what happen to our new generation. Parents, schools: principal, rabbis, teachers ARE pushing our kids out of the schools or yeshiva because they don’t fit, because they need more attention and warmth. Sad
October 9, 2015 12:23 am

The war on drugs is a scam designed to fill up the for-profit corporate prisons in this country. What is the point of locking up non-violent offenders who have committed no tort, at a cost of $167,731 per year to taxpayers? How is selling or consuming alcohol any different than marijuana or even cocaine? I thought the good “Republicans” of Crown Heights were all about individual liberty and personal responsibility? To gauge from the comments here, corporate fascism is more like it.

Do you know how many of OUR children R”L have died from over-dosing, or who fell or stumbled into traffic, or who took their own lives? Their parents and siblings would give anything to have them cooling of in prison now, rather than in the morgue L”A. It’s so sad for the lives that were lost or destroyed. Help
October 9, 2015 12:11 am

It is very difficult to ‘help’ kids involved in drugs, until they are ready and looking for help themselves. Do not blame the neighbors. You can reach out, but often kids will refuse help until something drastic happens to them. Many drug users end up addicted or overdosed, so arrest may have actually saved some of these kids’ lives. Tragic story, and the cure lies somewhere much earlier in life – kids need to have loving homes, good mentors and role models, and healthy, fun outlets and activities WHEN THEY ARE LITTLE KIDS, so that they feel secure and build… Read more »
