As residents and visitors rushed through the drenching rain on Eastern Parkway Friday, they could see R’ Nachum Markowitz braving the weather and receiving massive shipments of food for the annual Kidushim that he coordinates.
Among the grateful passersby was one man who stopped to thank R’ Nachum for a “miracle”. At last year’s Kiddushim, the gentleman’s friend, a Shliach, asked for a Brocha for children. “The doctors had told the couple that it would be impossible to conceive,” the man told Markowitz.
After five years of marriage, the couple had their first child this year, he said.
Markowitz, who rejects being called “Rabbi,” downplays his purported ability to bless people. He maintains that the Zechus of the project so blessed by the Rebbe is the source of any Brochos.
Many have attributed Brochos in the area of Shiduchim, children, and livelihood to their support of this cause. COLlive shared donors Yerachmiel and Rivkah Leah Jacobson’s experience of receiving a blessing for a baby boy three years ago. Since then, many have reported Brochos in their lives and point to the Kidushim and the Rebbe’s blessings in its regard, with gratitude.
The Grand Kidushim are a cherished staple of Tishrei in Lubavitch that have been widely enjoyed by residents and guests alike for 35 years.
Practically anyone who has been to Crown Heights for Tishrei has benefitted from Nachum Markowitz’s Grand Kiddushim and distributions.
Since the start of Tishrei, over 70,000 bottles of water, thousands of cases of meat, dairy, mezonos rolls and other foods have been enjoyed by residents and guests in Crown Heights.
