Chavi Friedberg, a student of Bais Rivka High School, passed away in 1990 at the young age of 18.
In honor of her 25th yartzeit on the 29th of Av, a group of her classmates have set up the “Chavi Friedberg Memorial Fund” to raise money for a program to support teenage girls in Bais Rivka that are struggling socially.
The objective is to raise and allocate funds toward helping children that have social difficulties, in particular to promote healthy self esteem for teenage girls, organizers say.
“Charity begins at home – we have decided to dedicate this project to Bais Rivka School, as that is the school both we and Chavi attended,” they said.
The fund will sponsor workshops and classes to address issues such as children with low self-esteem or social awkwardness.
“A child without friends is in a very lonely place,” organizers said. “Please support us in this very special mitzvah. No girl should suffer alone. Every girl needs the support of friends.”
The new fund is under the auspices of Lubavitch Youth Organization.

A beautiful and necessary program. Hatzlacha!
and she seemed very special! It is so thoughtful and kind of you to organize something in her memory. The only point I think would be very helpful to have in mind is, that it is usually the girls who leave others out, who have issues with low self esteem. Someone secure will often be inclusive, even to the socially awkward type. Perhaps, it would be a good idea, to give the girls in the cliques sessions on self esteem.
So many kind words are written here, I wish you all good luck with this project and hope you are able to help those who are in need. I knew Chavi, but not well, I saw her as a nice friendly girl. I did know her parents well, they were the kindest people! I’m sure they are smiling down at this new project.
It is so easy to talk, to mourn, to sigh and continue with our routine lives after a tragedy. Twenty five years have passed, it would be so easy to forget. Twenty five years within which people would give a sigh when someone mentioned Chavi’s name.
Now you see, alumni of Beth Rivkah, I am so proud of what you are doing. No doubt, Chavi is smiling down at you and saying
“kol hakovod”
Chavi and her family lived acrossthecstreet from me she was a kind girl who lived in a time where not much was known to help her she was in my home on Shabbos after high school she drew me a picture and a kind note I still have a picture she gave me her parents who are no longer with us will be so proud. She and her brother meant everything to them thank you for this wonderful program

Thanks so, so much for doing this beautiful project in her memory. So special!!!
So nice of her classmates to.do this.
A great cause.
Along with opening your hearts and wallets for this most worthy cause, here’s an additional, meaningful way to remember Chavi obm. 🌷Be a source of encouragement to others🌷. I don’t mean pat, dismissive comments like “You look good, nice seeing you.” Genuine, thought out, uplifting messages that one can walk away with – feeling like a more valuable human being, feeling hopeful, feeling important or special. It doesn’t require that much thought or effort and it goes a long way. I just practiced it myself in a pizza shop. Observed a rambunctious bunch of kids being juggled by exhausted parents.… Read more »
