The young women of Chabad girls Academy of Crown Heights recently celebrated the completion of an incredible year; a year full of learning and achieving personal growth.
They have mastered skills both in kodesh and chol subjects, gaining independence in their learning while addressing their questions about life and their purpose. This approach brought a deeper appreciation of a Torah perspective to them and increased their desire to continue to pursue a meaningful Torah way of life.
The graduation ceremony began with a short fashion show for the mothers and sisters to watch. The excited students wore the dresses which they made from recycled materials. Designs included a pink bubble wrap dress and a newspaper skirt which they made throughout the year during their Tznius Dress Design Class. A description of each gown was explained as they walked through the room. It was a joyous moment for the girls to showcase their creativity and the lessons that they learned about beauty from within and how it can be expressed.
Fathers and brothers, as well as other family and friends, joined in after the fashion show for the continuation of the graduation ceremony.
Mrs. Devorah Leah Angyalfi, director of of the school, welcomed the crowd and gave over a message from the parsha based on a sicha from the Rebbe with a lesson we can learn from Korach.
Addressing the graduates, Mrs. Angyalfi said: “I am so proud of each and every one of you for the effort you have put into your learning and Avodas Hashem this year. You have worked hard and you have succeeded! Each one of you has a unique role and the tremendous power to carry it out.”
An out of town student, Ita Goodman expressed her deep appreciation for what she gained at the school this past year. “I discovered that school is a place where you are supposed to reach your potential, a place where people care about you and take the time to understand you and help you grow,” she said.
The first student in the school since its inception was Mushkie Korn who proudly related her experiences and the lessons she gained. “During this year when we went to sing at a Chabad house for a Mega Challah Bake event, we went on stage to sing and we forgot the words to one of the songs. From that experience I realized that it doesn’t matter how many times you fall, but how quickly you get up.”
Another student, Chana Bressel, said, “This year I really grew, and now my connection with Hashem is much stronger!”
Thanks were offered to the teachers for their tremendous efforts that they put into each individual student. One parent stood up to thank the staff and she reported the positive results and transformations that she saw as her daughter woke up every day excited to go to school and how she progressed and matured.
A beautiful slideshow presentation offered a glimpse of the unique classroom and the varied professional workshops and presentations given to the students throughout the year. Everyone enjoyed the remarkable and also humorous arrangement of pictures and videos.
Student Tonya Tessler was the recipient of the Ahavas Yisroel Award in memory of Chaya Levy OBM from England, known for her giving heart and non-judgmental attitude. Levy’s classmates from around the world sponsored the award.
A collection of all of the girls work throughout the year was beautifully displayed on tables for guests to enjoy.
The evening concluded with the diplomas that were awarded to each student along with a beautiful leather bound siddur with their names engraved on it. The students walked confidently back down the aisle ready to continue their journey in becoming role models of a true bas Chabad and growing into successful Jewish women.
Registration for grades 7 and 8 is now open for the 2015-2016 school year. Space is limited. For more information please contact Devorah Leah Angyalfi at (973) 216-1188 or email at [email protected]
