The first step I took into Merkos was a step not even the stars could predict.
An experience no amount of time can outstretch.
Because when you find a place where you truly fit, it’s impossible not to get caught up in its grip.
In the inspiration gained with every sip of knowledge.
In the amount of accomplishment from little strides and individual guide.
Growth is optional, but it’s impossible for a flower to receive sunlight and water and not blossom into something beautiful.
We were given all the tools to succeed.
From the spacious dorm and modern classroom, to the amazing teachers- Sensitive to each person and catered to all levels of observance.
No matter our age or background, we all sat together with open hands to catch the sparks of Torah bouncing off the walls: but instead they penetrated our hearts, and lit a flame so bright that we lost track of time.
Even more so, I learnt that sometimes the greatest lessons can be taught outside of the classroom.
In my case this was in a place that I usually would have been reluctant to go prior to seminary.
Doing mivtzoyim at Mount Scopus College, I found a part of me I didn’t know existed and realized that I was the one being affected.
Inspired by the girls in their excitement, as they explained every week how they go out of their way to make sure they have candles to light for shabbos.
From this experience I have learnt that no matter our path, taking the time to motivate someone else can make a lasting impression and create endless ripples in a sea thirsting for inspiration.
As fast as the leaves turn color and the wind grows louder, I’m saying goodbye to the people I just met.
Letting go of the shoulder that I leaned my head on.
Some may call you friends, but to me you’ll always be my second family.
We made dinner for each other and knew we could count on one another if we got sick.
We may have been a small group but that’s what bound us together.
I think we can all agree that the greatest lesson we learnt is to have Ahavas Yisroel. No matter someone’s past, we are all on a journey to find meaning. Without love, patience, or kindness towards others we are alone.
We flourished on unconditional support from an incredible staff with hearts of gold.
A bond that can never be torn.
I will never forget the year in Merkos, when a group of strangers became my home.

What a beautiful article. Mirel really said it all and we as parents are so thankful to the hanhala of Merkos Women Seminary for providing our daughters with a year long program of learning and living as true bnos Chabad. They certainly gained so much from it.
