Shavuos Trip to Yerushalayim… With Chocolate for Dessert
Shavuos in Yerushalayim with Aseres HaDibros at the Kosel – what could be more uplifting?!
One of the famous highlights of the Beis Chana-Naale is the annual Shavuos trip to Yerushalayim. This year, students enjoyed an extra day thanks to Shabbos preceding Yom Tov.
Shavuos break started Thursday afternoon with a flurry of activity as girls baked cheesecakes and prepared games and a songbook in anticipation of the trip.
After traveling to Yerushalyim the next day, and settling into the stunning hotel in Baka, the Naale group lit Shabbos candles and went to daven in the Great Synagogue—an impressive shul indeed—setting the mood for the weekend. Following seudas Shabbos, everyone sang songs for hours thanks to the well-planned songbook and girls farbrenged and shared Chassidic stories with one another.
Shabbos day was meaningful and memorable with davening in the Chabad House Shul in Baka located in a fancy simcha hall. After a delicious catered seudas Shabbos, the group walked along a lengthy scenic path with views of the Old City, with a stop for Pirkei Avos and more singing.
Back at the hotel, everyone lit candles and shared the first Yom Tov meal. Later, at 4 AM, exhausted but excited, everyone went to the Kosel to recite Tikkun Leil Shavuos, heard the monumental Aseres HaDibros, and a remarkable mass Birkas Kohanim. No words can properly describe this unforgettable experience!
After davening, everyone went back to the penthouse hotel suite for a scrumptious milchig breakfast and went to….sleep!
Lunch was followed by a farbrengen with Rabbi Hendel, the shaliach in Baka, who talked about the connection between the Jewish nation and Hashem, and how Shavuos reflects this partnership.
Following havdalah, the group clambered back on their mini-bus to return to Tzfas – but the fun was not over yet!
Monday morning (Isru Chag for those in the Holy Land) began with breakfast and davening followed by a trip to the Golan’s famous De Karina gourmet chocolate factory. There, the girls had a factory tour, taste testing, and chocolate workshop with each student preparing her own samples of chocolate bark and truffles. YUM!
All in all, there was never a dull moment—from the sublime Shavuos experience in the holiest city on Earth, to songs and home made milchigs, to an entertaining chocolate factory trip.
A healthy, happy summer to all!
