Rabbi Sholom B. Alperowitz who served as a Shliach of the Rebbe throughout his life; father and grandfather of Shluchim around the world, passed away on Erev Shabbos, 4 Sivan, 5775.
He was 84.
Born in Nevel, Russia, Rabbi Alperowitz moved with his family to Israel in 1933, meriting to have a Yechidus with the Frierdiker Rebbe on the way to Israel.
Rabbi Alperowitz came to the United States just before Shabbos Bereishis 5711 at the behest of the Previous Rebbe, who requested that 6 bochurim be sent to study in New York from Eretz Yisroel. (Also among those 6 bochurim were Reb Yoel Kahn and others, as mentioned in the Previous Rebbe’s letter in Igros Kodesh).
After his marriage, Rabbi Alperowitz and his wife Susha served as Shluchim in the early 1970’s, moving out to Dallas, TX at a time when Shlichus was still unpopular.
He and his wife served mostly in Chinuch according to the Rebbe’s wishes. They lived in several other cities where they served as the base for Chabad activities, while at the same time working in Chinuch. In the last 25 years they lived in New Haven, CT where he and his wife continued their role in Chinuch.
In the early years he managed the Kehos Bookstore directly below the Rebbe’s room and considered it his mission to be mayfitz the Rebbe’s Torah to the entire world. He was also zoche to be amongst the few who were Meshamesh BaKodesh in the early years.
Although he was a quiet man, He never missed an opportunity to Chazer Chassidus borabim, and pass on the Rebbe’s teachings and views to those around him, even in non-Chabad settings.
He merited to have many students in cities across the US who today are Shomrei Torah U’mitzvos, Baalei teshuva, and Chassidim due to his efforts.
All of his children and nearly all his grandchildren serve as Shluchim of the Rebbe across the globe.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Susha Alperowitz and children: R’ Zushe Alperowitz, Mashpia, Kiryat Gat, Israel, Mrs. Tila Dubrawsky, Curitiba, Brazil, Mrs. Rochel Berkowitz, Huntington Beach, CA, Mrs. Bluma Hecht, Orange, CT, R’ Yossi Alperowitz, Bournemouth, England and R’ Kuti Alperowitz, Cape Cod, MA.

A KIND AND SPECIAL OHAIV SHALOM
HE WILL BE SOELY MISSED
All of the people that we meet in our lives change us in some way. A few even influence us and noticeably change the things we say and do. And a very few influence what we are and we become in our lives. Rabbi Alperowitz was the first Chasidic Jew that I had ever met, an energetic and enthusiastic teacher of young children, with a joy of learning and being, and a distinctive voice, tune and expression that I will hear whenever I read or hear Chumash, until my final day. I was a seven year old. To me, his… Read more »

bde. he will be sorely missed.
Every Thursday night he would study Chassidus with the camp counselors in Cincinnati and then he would write a long letter. i once asked him what he was writing? He said that every week he would write a letter to the Rabbe everything he did that week; every class he gave and every student in every class.. Every miftziom he went on. Basically everything that happened from week to week.
A book could be written about him, his children show who he was.
Zushe was a Bochur (Shliach) when I was a kid in Toras Emes. He was a living example for us kids to watch daven and the way he conducted himself. What a father he must have had.
A true chosid

An important face missing in this article: R’ Sholom Ber’s father was the famous Chosid Reb Chaim Moshe Alperowitz A”h, who was known to be a Benoni of Tanya.
Would someone know of a family email address?
