In the week leading up to the holiday when Jews celebrate the receiving to the Torah, Jews in the central and western regions of Ukraine received sacred items to help them practice the Torah.
The brothers Rabbi Yair Ladayov of France, Rabbi Nechemia Ladayov and Rabbi Rachamim Ladayov of Israel went around from home and home and help distribute and even affix Mezuzos on doorposts.
It was part of their Elchanan Meir Fund which also paid for tens of pairs of Tefillin, Talis, Tzitzis and holy Jewish books which were handed out in Zhitomir, Kiev, Berditchev, Korostyshiv, Cherkasy, Slavuta and other cities.
They were invited by Western Ukraine’s Chief Rabbi Shlomo Wilhelm who thanked them for the “holy efforts.”
They said that even Jews who hesistated at first to place such a Jewish symbol on their homes, later requsted a Mezuzah. The brothers said they encountered many that were deeply moved by the gusture.
Those promising to put on Tefillin on a daily got a pair free of charge, in addition to a Russian translated prayer book.
