It’s just after ten in the morning on Sunday. Three (and in some cases, four) generations of Jewish women filter into the lobby of Bais Chaya Mushka, located in Los Angeles’s own 770 building.
Women and young girls alike are chatting animatedly, and all feel like important celebrities as their photos are taken in front of a custom-designed Step and Repeat backdrop.
In fact, there are some Very Important People in attendance today.
Bubbies.
The Generation Sensation is a launch event put on by the Bais Chaya Mushka Bubby Club, led by Assistant Principal Ms. Simi Raichik and third grade teacher, Mrs. Mushky Yiftach.
Girls in grades third through fifth were invited to participate, along with their mothers, grandmothers, great-grandmothers, and special friends. Activities for the day included a delicious, gourmet breakfast, trivia games focusing on how well the girls knew their Mommies and Bubbies, races, cake decorating, lively entertainment in the form of tribute songs and a video, an auction featuring fabulous prizes, and most importantly, Pesukim and pre-Shavuos learning about the guarantors of our Torah.
On Shavuos, we celebrate the unbroken chain of our tradition that links us back to Har Sinai, 3,337 years ago. As such, we celebrate our children, who Hashem accepted as the guarantors that this tradition would stay alive. Additionally, we honor our mothers, grandmothers, and great-grandmothers, who actively nurture the girls of Bais Chaya Mushka, and show them how to value and love the Torah in their daily lives.
As one Bubby put it, “The event was fabulous. Everyone participated, from the Bubbies and Great-bubbies, to the mothers and girls. The energy was incredible.” With 170 women and students in attendance, “The room was large, but the atmosphere was intimate and special.”
The Bubby Club and Bais Chaya Mushka would like to sincerely thank Ms. Simi Raichik, Rabbi Dovid and Mrs. Mushky Yiftach, Mrs. Hadassah Weiss, Mrs. Rochie Charytan, all of the energetic volunteers, and the generous donors who helped make this event such a resounding success.
Generation Sensation was created in honor of Rebbetzin Leah Raichik ZT”L, the first shlucha of the Rebbe in California, and Mrs. Miriam Weiss ZT”L, a pioneer of the Los Angeles frum community, who both have grandchildren and great-grandchildren enrolled in Bais Chaya Mushka.
The Bubby Club and Bais Chaya Mushka plan to make Generation Sensation an annual event, in addition to more new programming for grandparents and extended family throughout the year.
