A man who is regularly seen collecting money in Crown Heights was caught on camera this week making off with a bike belonging to a bochur living in the 1414 dormitory building of the Central Chabad Yeshiva in Brooklyn.
Mendy T., who lives in the dormitory while learning in the ‘kevutza’ group this year, left his bike inside the yard in front of the building on Thursday night, he told COLlive.
On Shabbos afternoon, he noticed the bike was missing.
After Shabbos, he asked the school administrator to check the security camera footage, in an attempt to find out what had happened.
On the footage from Friday night, the familiar man, who is seen in his usual light colored suit jacket, can be seen walking into the yard and calmly removing one of the bikes from the wall and riding away.
On Monday, Mendy says, he discovered the bike abandoned in 770, the rear tire damaged.
“I guess since the bike had gotten damaged and he couldn’t ride it, he had no use for it anymore,” he told COLlive.
The man in the video has been in trouble earlier this week, having gotten into a physical altercation on Monday with a Lubavitch man on Kingston Avenue, who held him down while the Police were called.
He was arrested but was obviously released pretty quickly, since he was out stealing the bike on Friday night.
Yeah… sometimes these people that you think you give ‘tzedaka ” too you are not helping them at all…
Like the 770 russian mafia.
Why do we let the police not do their jobs? How can someone who assaulted someone on the streets randomly be out so fast?
BS”D
all of the above is true, but if you saw his face as he said Shema in Teffilin this week when a Bochor put on him on Kingston Ave outside the Mikvah one night …….
Hashem should help him.
Stealing coats from 770
What’s the follow-up? If nothing, then at least post a clearer picture of him so we can be more cautious when we see him.
Is he Jewish?
He steals Tefillin from 770 , he smashed Gombos Bakery door two yrs ago , he threatens the community residents on Kingston ave “TZEDAKA” for his drug habit , Where is the CHJCC?
I’ve seen this guy, he is very hostile and frighting sometimes. Why do we allow him to roam around? He’s obviously very ill and dangerous. Shouldnt there be some kind of services that can deal with people like this and get them off our streets?
Why can’t they arrest him?? Why let him do more bad stuff? Why does he have to get into everyone’s property?
Why was the bike not chained?
