Parsha Learning at Local Zoo

Students of Oholei Yosef Yitzchok Lubavitch of Crown Heights visited the Prospect Park Zoo last week, to further advance their knowledge about Kosher and non-Kosher animals, birds, and fish.

All students greatly enjoyed the trip, where they had a hands on opportunity to see and touch the animals and birds that are discussed in the week’s Parsha.

Students were given a mission to find the Kosher signs of kosher animals and fish.

Students were encouraged to remember stories from Tzadikim or from Medrash that are connected with the animal worlds and how each and every creation has its purpose, as well as the responsibility we have as humans to take care of our environment.

“It was lovely to see how our students were able to put the knowledge they learned into action,” said Mila Shnaiderman, director. “The visit sparked discussions about which of the Kosher animals and birds are suitable to be brought as a korban in the Beis Hamikdosh, how to do “Kmitza,” why birds do not have simonim, how the tradition passes from generation to generation, and how the world will look after the coming of Moshiach.”
