Chabad in New York’s Long Island is organizing an impromptu gathering after 2 Commack High School students were photographed wearing t-shirts with anti-Semitic messages.
The photo shows the teens in red t-shirts emblazoned with large, black swastikas with the word “Auschwitz” in large letters, 1010 WINS reported. In smaller letters, the words “hit the showers” can be seen.
The image drew strong responses. While Twitter user dismissed the photo as “teenagers doing stupid stuff,” another wrote: “As someone whose grandparents were killed by teenagers in Auschwitz T-shirts, it makes my blood run cold.”
The Commack School District said that while the incident occurred off school grounds, they are investigating the matter and the students are being disciplined.
Just last September, five students from the same high school were photographed on campus with t-shirts spelling out the word “rape.”
In response to the event, local Chabad centers will hold an event titled “Turning Darkness Into Light – A Night of Unity” which will take place this Sunday, April 19, at 7:00pm at Chabad’s Chai Center in Dix Hills.
The event calls for high school students and their parents to attend “a night of understanding.”
Scheduled speakers will include a Holocaust survivor, Sheriff of Suffold Country Vincent Demarco and Detective Sanform Shulder of the Bias Crimes Bureau at Suffolk Country Police Department.
What would these same teenagers say if someone walked around wearing t-shirts that said “Hey, Commack, all pet dogs to the Aushwitz showers.” You can bet your bottom dollar they wouldn’t consider it ” a joke.” Nor did they consider this a joke. It was an expression of their real feelings and an in-your-face way of saying “This is what I think; go ahead and do something.”
HOw did 5 students have shirts that spelled out rape? It’s only 4 letters?
This teenagers either think thier funny or they really are antisemites!! Whichever one it is they have NO excuse to write that!!! All the suffering that people had had not even taught people to be nice!!??? Oy the evil in this world!!! Every day we have people going on about how bad we are!! GIVE US JEWS A BREAK!!! when moshiach comes they’ll all relize how WRONG they really are!!
Some crazy kids having a joke??? I hope Chabad will really have something strong and direct to share with the audience they hope to reach.
what are you? crazy? Antisemite? Teenagers of today are leaders of tomorrow. You want these “teens” running for president in 25 years?
Rabbi should approach those teens, and invite them to join his event. He can talk lightly to them about sports or things they enjoy to help them feel un-threatened. let them be properly educated.
this is Not To Be knocked off and taken lightly IT IS NOT Considered a joke!!!!!!
that’s exactly it!!!! Its not a joke!!!!!
Some crazy kids having a joke
Every Aushwitz survivor with a number on their arm should march in protest. Let the world know who should go to the
showers and that the Jewish people are united against such behavior.Imagine a t-shirt with a picture of President Obama with subtitles of Go to the back of the bus you —–.
Make a good tee shirt to counter that one.
