The Toronto Chabad community was treated to a three day Kinus Torah over the three nights of Chol Hamoed Pesach this year.
The Kinusim, organized by Hatomim Levi Zaltzman, have been a standard tradition in Toronto for many years, but this year, a new Chidush was introduced (this is in addition to the many Torah Chidushim that were shared at the Kinusim).
In discussion with Rabbi Moshe Spalter of Chabad of Thornhill, host of the Kinus, Zaltzman was looking for ways of improving upon previous years’ successes. The one problem that was identified was that in a long Kinus with many speakers the audience tends to tire and drift off or drift away.
In order to remedy this, suggested Rabbi Spalter, they would do a short Kinus each evening between Mincha and Maariv, when the community is in Shul anyway, with a maximum of three speakers each night, and this way more Torah will be shared but in a way that everyone will benefit and enjoy.
As it turns out, the idea did work, and some one hundred of Anash stayed to listen to the various speakers each night.
The presenters were a mixture of local Anash, guests who had come to Toronto for Yomtov and Temimim who had come home for Pesach.
Levi Zaltzman MC’d each night.
On the first night the speakers were Rabbi Akivah Wagner, Rosh Yeshivah of Yeshivah Lubavitch Toronto on the topic of the Arba Kosos, Rabbi Zushe Winner, Rosh Yeshivah of Chovevai Torah in Crown Heights on the topic of Hilchos Haga’lah.
On the second night the speakers were Rabbi Shmuel Rabin of Toronto on to topic of Dikduk variations in Halel, Thehilim and Tkias Shofar
Hatomim Levi Zaltzman on the topic of in Each Generation …Went out of Mitzrayim and Hatomim Chanania Wechter on the topic of Pesach, Matza and Maror in the time of the Bais Hamkdash.
