The annual Central Jerusalem Friendship Circle Matza Bake and Give’n take auction made its mark. 75 children with special needs and their volunteers came from far as Maaeli Adumim to participate in this event.
The program, headed by Chava Mishulovin and Beit Chana dedicated volunteers, began with a Pesach arts ‘n crafts project where children of all ages were able to show their creativity. This was followed by the famous Shalom Peretz Matza Bake presentation where each child was able to roll, hole and bake their very own matza.
Surprise visitors who dropped by to ‘check out’ what FC is all about and spectate, were Professor Gerald Schroeder – world renowned scientist/ physicist, his wife Barbara Sofer – senior JPost columnist and their grandchildren. Blown away by the flour, action and joy, they joined the Matza creating and baking in fascination.
The children pounded away as they chanted with glee, “LESHEM MITZVAT MATZAH! LESHEM MITZVAT MATZAH! SHELO TETZE KTZITZA VESHELO TETZE PIZZA!”
Parents, children and volunteers were treated to a scrumptious supper of Holy Bagel bagels (in keeping with the Pesach menu!), different kids of cheeses, tuna/ egg salads and vegetables with muffins and fruits in season as dessert.
Odaya’s mother commented that her daughter, who usually sits on the side and does not participate in activities, was led by the hand by a perservering volunteer to the table where she too, joined the pre Pesach revv up.
“There was a heightened feeling of unity that evening,” concluded FC director Chana Canterman, “As older FC children lent a hand to the younger children, dancing in unity to music and rejoicing in true Pesach spirit- as it will be please G-d when together they will join again, to drum and march down Mamilla Avenue in just a few weeks for Lag B’Omer.”
