Bais Menachem Mendel Yeshiva, a Smicha rabbinical ordination institute in Flatbush, NY, had unusual guests this past weekend: two sheep.

The furry cattle were purchased Friday to demonstrate the Shechita slaughter practice.

Rabbi Chezy Posner, a shochet from Crown Heights, was on hand conducting the process with the help of Yitzy Goldshmid who did the nikkur (purging animal fats).

Goldshmit, who worked in Postville in the past, commented, "I never expected to do nikkur in Flatbush."

They were supervised by Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Yochanan Marsow and Rabbi Chaim Brikman, Chabad Shliach in Sea Gate.

The Yeshiva holds monthly morning classes for local residents on various topics (9:30am Shacharis, breakfast and class) at 1000 E 17th Street in Brooklyn.

The sheep are sold for $2.80 per pound. "The price is up from $1.50," bochur Eli Simon said. "Non-Jews are eating beef instead of pork because of the swine flu."

"I'm happy to demonstrate this," Posner told those gathered in the Yeshiva's backyard. He added, "I hope that when you are Rabbis you will be be dealing with people as well, not only animals."

Also present were Rabbi Mordechai Lipsker, Mashpia of the Yeshiva, Kings Highway Shliach Rabbi Zalman Drizin and known Jewish music composer Yossi Green.

Zalman Schwartz, a resident, said he was impressed. "The 14 bochurim had the ability to understand what they learn from these two experts," he said.

There was just a story about Bobov doing a shechita upstate. They got into major trouble with neighbors, authorities and the media, why publicize this if it had to be done?!!!!

The sheep died. But some say it is still alive. They have proof from the saying, “cat's have 9 lives”. If a cat has 8 lives, a sheep surely has more. Anyone who disagrees is an anti-sheep.

There are bumper stickers showing the picture of the sheep. Some wear sheep pins. Many have sheep yarmulkas.

The Sheepman are trying to control the yeshiva. They say the yeshiva belong to them. Agudas Lambchops are fighting back. It will be going to court.

Among the Sheepman there are some that say the sheep is only sleeping. Others see the sheep walking around. Some even say the sheep is godly. Meanwhile the sheep appeared, then it disappeared. We are waiting for it to reappear...but it did already reappear for some.

Radical Sheepman will push you out of the way when they “see” the invisible sheep walking towards you. They are blessed with super-vision. (I wonder if they can see through walls?)

Meanwhile, the community is out to pasture.

Some Rabbonim support the Sheepman. Others are more on the Lambchop team. Lambs and cows feel out of place in the community but want to run in elections. Sheepman can't let lambs or cows run. It is unnatural
.
Maybe there were two sheep...one lived and one died, would that make everyone happy?

It think I'll just say baaaa or moooooo, l'olom voed.

We as Chasiddim are supposed to look at the positive of each other!!Like he known story-Davening while fixing the wagon.

WOW! while he has Teffilin on he's also doing another Mitzvah!!

Mitzvah goireres Mitzvah!

Be an optimist and not a pesimist!

whaaat?? i and you have no clue
Bloody hell
Its shechita why make a scene why publicize it on the internet
It’s inhumane...

gevalt
What are you guys doing???????
(5/11/2009 8:52:26 PM)
18
why???
I'm all for learning shechita/nikkur halachos - but why in a residential area where it is illegal????

why does everyone think they are above the law - it is a huge chillul Hashem.

If you want to watch it up close - hire a bus and go to a slaughterhouse. Is that so hard?

the reason that it could possibly viewed as inhumane treatment is because
IT IS INHUMAN
ITS AN ANIMAL
NOT A HUMAN!

You're one person (17-18) so i'll answer "you"- what's "a huge chilul Hashem" exactly??? This house has NO NEIGHBORS on any side, and was closed to the public. On the contrary it was a HUGE KIDDUSH HASHEM, demonstrating a close to 3000 yr. mesora! There's nothing better for yiraas shomayim than witnessing the process from a-z and by yidden exclusively, this was only possible venue....17-18 identify yourself!!!! so that next time we can give you a front row seat.

party atmosphere
many people who were there with or without cameras were not smicha students, the whole thing looked like a block party.
gave me the creepies.

why all the hoopla and exposure? SHLEPING THE LAMB UPSIDE DOWN WAS DISGUSTING AND INHUMANE.

You think #13 is funny?! Are you crazy?! IT IS SAD!!!!!!!! So VERY S-A-D!!!!!!! Our community is really "out to pasture" and we are the butt of jokes. The joke is on us!! That isn't funny at all.

The sheep never died. It lives just like it did before the shchitah. The shchita never happened. It only looked like it was shechted.

You are also not reading this comment. It only looks like exists, but that is to fool those who lack faith. In fact, you don't even exist. You only think you do, but that isn't the reality.
