Rebbetzin Shaindel Shoshanah Geldzahler, daughter of Philadelphia’s Chief Rabbi Ephraim Yolles, passed away this week at the age of 81.
Her respected father, who served as the President of Agudas HaRabonim (Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the United States and Canada), was a regular at Lubavitch Headquarters – 770 Eastern Parkway.
Rebbetzin Geldzahler, the youngest of his 3 children, would often accompany him in his visits to meet the Rebbe. Rabbi Yolles would visit the Rebbe every Pesach, explaining that he is doing so in accordance with the law of ‘aliya laregel’, which according to commentaries is fulfilled during the exile era by visiting one’s Rabbi.
In her father’s last visit on Chol Hamoed Pesach, 18 Nissan 5748, she came with her husband Rabbi Yosef Geldzahler of Bais Medrash Harav M’Philadelphia and Rosh Yeshivas Rav Shamshon Raphael Hirsch in Washington Heights.
The Rebbetzin leaves behind a family of rabbonim and Torah teachers following in her ways, the Yeshiva World News reported.
She is survived by her husband, Rav Yosef, and he children, Rabbi Uri Geldzahler, Samborer Rov; Rabbi Shlomo Geldzahler, rov of the Satmar kehillah of Montreal; Rabbi Arye Leib Geldzahler, mashbak of the Ribnitzer Rebbe zt”l; Rabbi Dovid Geldzahler, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Harei Besamim; and her daughter, Mrs. Rabinowitz, wife of Rav Aharon Rabinowitz of the Boayner kehillah in New York.
The levaya was held at Bais Knesses Tiferes Gedalyahu in Monsey, NY. The family is sitting Shiva at 5 Sylvan Road, Monsey, NY.
