Good point, it hurts to blame victims but learn!!!!!

Do you know how many fires are caused by Xmas trees each year ?

Questions were raised as to how the hotplate, which had a good safety record, that this could have happened. Keep in mind that any appliance, if dropped or roughed in any way, can result in a defect. So you have to both: Use smoke/fire detectors, and, if the appliance was mishandled – “when in doubt, do without…”

Refreshing to read some common sense feedback. I hope this is what most of us were already thinking. Thanks a lot for saying what I would like to believe the silent majority thinks.

There is such a lack of basic and obvious common sense today. So much reactionary responses. To fix problems and address issues is important and should always be done. But the reactionary and wholesale attacks, critique, and emotional outbursts are so rampant today.
