Inc. Magazine reports:
Alaska Airlines nabbed the top spot in a ranking of major U.S. airlines for 2014. United Airlines was last on the list for the fourth time in as many years.
The scorecard, tabulated by the Wall Street Journal based on data from flight-tracking services masFlight and FlightStats, evaluated the eight biggest U.S. carriers across seven different categories: on-time arrivals, canceled flights, extreme delays, two-hour tarmac delays, mishandled baggage, involuntary bumping, and complaints filed to the Department of Transportation.
Overall, 2014 was far from a banner year for business travel. Airlines in the U.S. cancelled roughly 66,000 more flights than they did in 2013, according to FlightStats. The DOT reported a 26 percent uptick in the number of consumer complaints filed over air travel last year, with airlines losing (or delaying) more than 2.1 million bags. In financial terms, U.S. businesses spent more than $292 billion on corporate travel in 2014, according to recent data from the Global Business Travel Association.
Here’s the overall ranking of U.S. airlines from best to worst:
1. Alaska
2. Virgin America
3. Delta
4. JetBlue
5. Southwest
6. Frontier
7. American
8. United

air canada has amazing busniss class i went there from tel aviv to toranto is slept 2 and a half 3rds of the flit why isnt air canada on the list
frontier is on the list for best airline,…. im sure thats a mistake.
the fact this list doesn’t put Spirit Air as unequivocally the worst airline raises doubts to the validity of the study
i just went on a flight on delta and did not have the best experience at all
i think jet blue is the best airline and delta should just go righ after
i also think that southwest is probab;y one of the worst airlines and should probably be rated last

It is natural that the two largest airlines in the US have the most delayed flights or any other complaints Alaska Airlines has just a fracture of the number of flights the large airlines fly hence the lower number of problems Also the study omitted Spirit Airline which in my opinion is the worst airline in the US (unless they didn’t include it because it does not qualify as an airline) same way Southwest has the most lost or misplaced luggage since they allow 2 free checked bags which people take full advantage of therefore they have the most checked… Read more »
American us airways and Alaska are the best thx to them codesharing with a British airline
what I don’t get is how do you compare Alaska Airlines to United obviously there will be doing better thy are a much smaller airlibe with much less destinations fleet wise Alaska has137 planes united has 696 aircraft the same goes for virgin america wich has barely 53 aircraft and a much smaller operation so I don’t understand the comparisons
southwest lets you check 2 bags free underneath the plane & jet blue lets you check 1 bag free underneath the plane.all other airlines charge you even for the 1st bag underneath the plane.i am surprised that airlines are even allowed to do something like that.until 7 or 8 years ago you were allowed to check 2 bags free on all airlines but now they charge you for the luggage that you check underneath. to me southwest is the only normal airline(2 bags free)& jet blue is the only half normal half crazy airline(only 1 bag free but one bag… Read more »
