Elected and community officials held a press conference Tuesday afternoon in Crown Heights to discuss initial ramifications of the stabbing of a Yeshiva student hours earlier at Lubavitch World Headquarters.
22-year-old Levi Rosenblatt is currently undergoing emergency surgery to stop internal bleeding after being stabbed in the neck by an African American man at around 1:40 am at 770 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn.
“This incident is reminiscent of Har Nof,” said Assemblyman Dov Hikind, referring to the recent terror attack by two Muslim men in a synagogue in Jerusalem killing 4 congregants and injuring eight.
Hikind said “Jewish communities around the world know what 770 represents,” as the highly visited synagogue of the Rebbe and home-base for the world’s largest Jewish network.
“A house of worship should remain a safe place,” said Michael Miller of the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC). He called on additional security measures to be taken to ensure the safety of congregants and visitors.
And those measures are currently being put into place, said Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, who organized the press conference at the nearby Aishel center on Kingston Avenue. “770 will be receiving the enhancement in security that is necessary.
Chanina Sperlin, the governmental liaison of the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council (CHJCC), said Mayor Bill de Blasio “assured that he will put extra protection on all Jewish religious sites in Crown Heights and throughout the whole city.”
Sperlin thanked Emma Wolff and Avi Fink of the Mayor’s office for their support and noted that the attacker scouted 770 earlier that evening when some 700 people were conducting Maariv evening services. “Thank G-d nothing happened then,” he said.
Speakers like Public Advocate Letitia James also called on the Jewish and black communities in the neighborhood to “keep the peace.” New York Councilwoman Laurie Cumbo said “It is important that we not allow this incident to divide our community.”
The community continues to pray for the recovery of the Jewish victim, said anti terror activist Devorah Halberstam. Eli Cohen of the CHJCC reported that the student’s mother will be flying in from Israel to be near her son. Currently, a cousin is with him.
Following the press conference, Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson came to 770 Eastern Parkway to meet with Rabbi Yehuda Krinsky and Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky, leaders of Merkos L’inyonei Chinuch which operates the Lubavitch Headquarters.
At the Oholei Torah Educational Institute down Eastern Parkway, staff met with Moshe Borowski, Director of School & Synagogue Trauma and Resilience Training on how to discuss the news with the students.

#25 you are right on. Boruch HaShem for the excellent job the policeman did. Are there enough police to protect us? How about our own security, Tzahal quality.
We managed it for HaTzalah, We can do it.
Please please…..all the money that goes into fancy shmancy getaways, mega banquets…..you need armed guards, armed frum people who know how to uses gun, sorry, but this is the world.
blah blah blah Blab
ha’misah hu ha eker
It has stayed pretty quiet unlike the har nof situation how come everything in Israel is always international ???
STOP GETTING UP THERE AND THANKING PEOPLE !! THERE IS A TIME TO TAKE ACTION AND A TIME TO BE POLITICALLY CORRECT AND LECK!!!
Hrmm… seems people beating round the bush talking about security cameras and defense classes etc, we live in a non-safe world and while as much as security cameras and defense lessons etc are essential that’s not what is going to stabilize our community and create a safe-proper environment, we need to add in goodness and kindness and realize that Moshiach is imminent and by 1 good deed we can greet him. We should hear good news about the boy soon please G-d
This is not a random event in a vacuum. As much as they may pay lip service there is a looong history of irrational hatred of Jews in this neighborhood- call it what you will. It is no wonder that any wild individual will cash in on the attitude that has long been present and commit violent crimes. Anyone who does not believe that the rise of anti-semitism and anti-Israel vitriol – including the massacre in Har Nof – had any influence on this unprecedentedly bold attack on 770 can only be called a fool. Not only official terrorists commit… Read more »

Those are the exact words that are needed: BE PROACTIVE. Don’t wait for something to happen c”v.
How about all the cash that goes to the luxury sailing ships and the stuff yourself silly weekends, and the crazy prices for wigs, be donated to the schools and the security of what’s really needed.mdont fool ourselves, arm up. Stop parading around in decadence, and do what’s right.
every security guards should be trained to use a weapon or how to defend himself against a weapon and teachers should practice lockdowns
Weak government….caused by unwise and heartless government…’The 7 Noahide Laws’ NOW! (It’s probably the community’s fault because they didn’t provide family counseling…get it? On the attack on the Crown-Troy grocery store, one politico said: “These kids are bored…we need more after school programs.” (I think they need ‘After-School Flogging.’ Thank you. (This weak government is a product of Xristianity.)
Now, this does not mean stopping and frisking everyone who walks into 770, like at the airports. But, if somebody looks suspicious AND has metal on him (even HER), then we know to pay special attention to this individual(s).
Schools and shuls must to have security in the all crown heights and in every community .
I need to remain anonymous but i have many friends that lost family members and had a hard time coping (and here is the point) UNTILL they met Moshe Boroski! life became easier working with him.
Why did we wait until something happened it is time that we became proactive and not reactive
Both principals were not present in 770 last night at 1:45am
The whole lot of them.political opportunists.
Please, we need Israeli style security posted outside and inside 770 to prevent similar attacks in the future! Who in the community might be responsible and able to implement the adequate security for our community. Ours and our children’s lives are at stake. Why are we taking it so lightly? PLEASE improve the security on the streets, shuls and schools in Crown Heights!
Reminiscent – tending to remind one of something.
It just means that it reminds us of the Har Nof attack. It doesn’t mean that they are exactly the same.
calm yourself.
I can assure you that this attack was influenced by the Har Nof attack. It’s not random.
B”H no one was killed. It is a disservice to the four Kedoshim’s families by calling this an attack equal to the one in Har Nof. Thank you.
Me too why did you stop the Jewish mother talking was so glued I dident wana stop
Awful as it was noway comparable to har nof attack ( Bh!)!
please do not compare the two
two tragedies in shules but otherwise not much in common
WE WANT MOSHICAH NOW
I wanted to hear the rest of the thing the jewish mother was saying! it was about to glue together when the video stopped
Anyone who goes around attacking complete strangers is clearly a case, as are those who support terrorist groups. However, a man capable of driving a car is capable of being held accountable for his actions. Don’t fool yourself into believing that he was an exception to the rule. Even though he is no longer alive there are so many like him. Right now there is an extremely permissive attitude regarding the safety of our community by police and even by community leaders, there is a high tolerance for ‘petty crimes’ which lead to much bigger crimes. The only language that… Read more »
Complete and speedily recovery to Levi Yitzchak ben Raizel
Comparing this to Har Nof is an insult to the families of the people who were senselessly murdered at Har Nof.
The difference s enormous because Levi is going to be A-OK!
