Nobody is taking away from the mitzvah he did! Read the ESPN article that was written before yom Kippur and while I was impressed, I felt uneasy that he pointed out that he was able to fast because it wasn’t game week (they practice all week even if the game is on Sunday) and went as far to say that last year he takeh didn’t fast. It seems that comment #1 is always focusing on negative for some reason. ( you are probably the same comment #1 on the bocher blowing shofar article).
The guy did a Mitzva, he said he fasted on a Yom Kipper! He bentched lulav. Focus on the positive! The way the Rebbe would.
The guy never said playing is more important. How do you know that he would not have fasted? How do you know he doesn’t fast other years on Yom Kippur? He is Jewish, he knows he is Jewish, and he took the opportunity to recognize that publicly. The fact is that he and his brother, who also plays in the NFL, grew up somewhat traditional. He fasted this year only because he was injured and did not have to practice or play. It was still nice that he went public with it but he didn’t have to stress that playing football is still more important and that if he was not injured and had to play he would not have fasted.
