Rebbetzin Alte Dvora Blumenfeld, one of the first shluchim to Brazil, has passed away on Wednesday, Cheshvan 5, 5775.
She was 85.
Born in soviet Russia to Shmuel Chaim and Chaya Gisha Liba Pulner, they moved to Ramat Gan, Israel, when she was 3 years old.
She married Rabbi Yerachmiel Blumenfeld who learned in Ponevezh and other Litvishe Yeshivos, and together they moved on Shlichus to Brazil more than 60 years ago.
The shlichus demanded much mesirus nefesh, including making all kosher food from scratch. Her husband was also the Chief Rabbi of Rio’s Jewish community, and he passed away at the young age of 52, leaving her and their children to carry on his life’s work.
She was zoche to have children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren on Shlichus in Brazil, Peru, Florida, Chicago, Detroit and Crown Heights.
She is survived by her children Rabbi Yaakov Yisroel Blumenfeld, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Chana Scharf, Crown Heights; Rabbi Yossi Blumenfeld, Crown Heights;
and Rabbi Shneur Zalman Blumenfeld, Shliach in Lima, Peru.
She is also survived by her sisters Sonia Pulner, Ramat Gan and Chasia Winter, Crown Heights.

She was the first contact I had with a Lubavitcher so many years ago in Brazil that led me on the road to a wonderful fulfilling Yiddishe life, my relationship with the Rebbe, my marriage to his doctor and the great zchus to have Shluchim children.
May her memory be a blessing and a consolation for and to all her children, especially Chanale Scharf and the entire family.
