Aspiring musician Shimon Goldberg, 20-years-old from Scranton, Pennsylvania, released a new song while still learning in a Yeshiva in Israel.
“I’ve always loved music and singing,” he tells COLlive.com. “Recently, I had the opportunity to sing at a wedding and the feedback was amazing. People were coming over and saying, ‘why don’t you sing more, you should go into the business, you sound great.'”
Not long later, a friend of classmates of his from Denver, Yitzy Melamed, who is also currently learning in Israel, approached Goldberg and asked if he would sing a new song he composed.
Titled “Tzomo Nafshi,” the words are based on the Friday night song composed by Rabbenu Avraham Ibn Ezra (1089-1164), one of the great Jewish scholars and poets that the Golden Age of Spain produced.
Goldberg and Melamed went to a recording studio in Jerusalem, run by Nadav Frankel. Music was done by Yehuda Gilberman, who is a keyboardist and plays professionally at simches, and also in part by Melamed.
“The song is a very interesting song as it mixes different styles of songs and instruments, which makes it hard to classify it to a specific genre,” Goldberg says.
The song is available for a free download at mostlymusic.com.
