The Sukkot Extravaganza- Simchas Beis HaShoeva run by Shaloh House Jewish Russian Center & Day School in Boston won the hearts of hundreds of Jewish children who enjoyed the Inflatable Giant Obstacle Course, a Petting Zoo, a magic show and a barbecue.
But arguably, the most popular activity was the weighty mitzvah of waving the “Miracle Esrog,” the largest locals had ever seen.
Rabbi Dan Rodkin, director of Shaloh House, always favors large esrogim. But he wasn’t at all prepared for the oversized reaction to this year’s esrog.
“Everyone came running!” Rabbi Rodkin said. “They took one look at my esrog and they said they simply have to make a brocha.”
The Simchas Beis HaShoeva, held on Sunday of Chol HaMoed, attracted families from every sector of Bostonian Jewry. It was just one of dozen of events that Shaloh House sponsored this past month, including “Sushi & Soup in the Sukkah,” Simchas Torah Whiskey Tasting and Sushi Blast,” apple-picking at a nearby orchard, Make-your-own-candy sukkahs, and, of course, holiday services which attracted several hundred worshippers.
Shaloh House runs a nationally award-winning elementary school, extremely popular preschool and after-school programs, a Sunday school, a daily synagogue, and holiday programs that attract hundreds. For more information, go to www.shaloh.org.
