After this summer’a horrifying turn of events, the rockets flying through the Sderot have been replaced with the spirit of the month of Tishrei. Blaring sirens have been replaced with holiday music.
While the city is still shook up, I decided to give the secular residents a chance to shake the Lulav. I went to bakeries, stores, anywhere populated, and together we blessed ‘al nitilat lulav’ and ‘shehechyanu’.
Sderot is the perfect place to fulfill the mitzvah of the lulav. Just like the lulav, Sderot has every type of Jew. However, it doesn’t matter what type of Jew you are here. No matter what, everyone sticks together. If not, we’d fall apart and be unfit, as the lulav would be if the species split.
The smile on their faces as they did this wonderful mitzvah, some for the very first time, was such a reward. As Jews, we are all enlisted in Hashem’s army. I therefore march, armed with my weapon, a Lulav-16, protecting the spirituality of Sderot’s residents.
The Chag ended with lively halafot at the Chabad house. Music played and we danced through the night.
Wish I was there
