In a world of social media and networking, where going viral indicates success, it would seem that a “Challah Bake” is the next big thing.
Challah Bakes have been held in dozens of locations around the world, bringing women together to learn about and experience the process of making challah and specifically, to perform the mitzvah of hafroshas challah.
The three mitzvos associated with women are known by the acronym CHaNaH, Challah, Niddah and Hadlokas Neiros. Candle-lighting campaigns and Taharas Hamishpocha classes have always been the subject of much attention. A Challah Bake brings into focus the other important mitzvah of women that holds much traditional and spiritual significance.
Crown Heights will be soon be joining the many other communities that have hosted a challah baking event with a “Grand Challah Bake” by Junior N’shei.
Organizers anticipate that hundreds of women will participate in the event which at its core, will be a beautiful display of achdus. In other communities, a Challah Bake might emphasize the actual performance on the mitzvah and give women a unique opportunity to make a challah dough which fits the requirements for making the brocha of hafroshas challah. For the women of Crown Heights, the focus of the event will be on the deeper meaning and intention behind the mitzvah while at the same uniting hundreds of Crown Heighters.
It is known that the time of hafroshas challah is an eis ratzon, which is utilized to request brochos for oneself, one’s family and klal yisroel. Many women are accustomed to saying “Sheyiboneh Bais Hamikdosh”, as well as davening on behalf of those in need of refuah, yeshua and shidduchim among other requests. There is also a segulah of 40 women performing the mitzvah of hafroshas challah with the intent of a brocha for a specific person. The potent holiness of this time is truly significant, and participants at the Grand Challah Bake will be given the opportunity to learn more and get inspired about this truly unique mitzvah.
The event is scheduled to be held at one of the largest locations available in Crown Heights, in order to give the maximum amount of women the opportunity to attend, although space is limited. The organizers assure that the speaker is a notable and renowned personality, however they did not yet disclose the name.
More details about this exciting and original event will be released as the time comes closer. In the meantime, spread the word and encourage family and friends to attend!
