Mrs. Sarah Rivka Mendelson, known as the “dorm mother” in Tomchei Temimim Yeshiva in Lod, Israel, passed away suddenly on Motzei Rosh Hashana.
Mrs. Mendelson was beloved by the hundreds of students of the Yeshiva, where she cared for their needs for over 60 years.
“Generations of students in Israel and around the world mourn the sudden passing of ‘our mother,'” wrote Israeli Chabad activist Rabbi Yaakov Gloiberman. “Everyone knew Mrs. Mendelson as a mother in the true sense of the word…every student felt as if their biological mother was there with them in Yeshiva.”
“Her face would light up with a smile for each student, and she was never angry with anyone…she worried about every detail that affected each one.”
She is survived by her husband, R’ Yitzchok Mendelson and children R’ Yossi Mendelson – Lod, Israel; R’ Yaakov Mendelson – Bnei Brak, Israel; R’ Dovber Mendelson – Kfar Chabad, Israel; R’ Zalman Mendelson – Vienna; Mrs. Chaya Feigenson – Texas; Mrs. Fruma Rivkin – Kfar Chabad, Israel; Mrs. Nechama Margolis – Lod, Israel and Malka Mendelson – Lod, Israel.
She was predeceased by her daughter Mrs. Tzippora Vigler obm.
The levaya took place in Lod Sunday morning and burial in Jerusalem.
