For the past 3 and a half years, the city of Amsterdam has been served by Shluchim Akiva and Taiby Camissar, who have been working to provide Jewish programming and activities for Israeli expats and tourists to the city.
After establishing a successful Chabad house in the southern part of the city, where most of the Israelis live, the Camissars have expanded to open another Chabad center in the heart of the city, specifically geared to reaching out to tourists.
During the summer months, the new location attracted a non-stop stream of visitors, who attended davening, Shabbat meals, classes and more.
All this was thanks to the dedicated bochurim Shluchim Dovid Morosow, Gavriel Glitzenshtein, and Mendel Factor, who came especially from Israel to assist throughout the summer.
Last week, a grand opening celebration was held at the new location, with the participation of Rabbonim and prominent community members.
Rabbi Camissar opened the festivities, he blew the Shofar and spoke about the days of Elul. He thanked the donors who helped make the opening possible, specifically the organization Keren Meromim and philanthropists Chaim Yankel Leibovitch and Moshe Shtashevsky.
Amsterdam’s Jewish community and local organizations welcomed the opening of the new center in the area, noting that it fills an important need for a warm home away from home for visitors to the area.
The Camissars operate under the Head Shluchim to Holland, Rabbi Yitzchok Vorst and Rabbi Binyomin Jacobs.
What this young couple have done in 3 years took other Shluchim 40 years to build!
